Can anyone take a look at pics and tell me if they think she is constipated, gravid of just fat? She hasnt eaten in 4 months. Has new large enclosure since. Had heating issues first up - i underestimated heat required. Has done a couple urates today on the lawn. Put her in the bath for about 20 mins. Vet only visits weekly so i'll have to wait but bit concerned. Seems to have developed of the last week. No aggression, bulge not hard to touch, not sensitive to her.

i dont think gravid, that lump is a worry, vet mate asap to be sure...

I would say she looks eggbound. Or else a heap of folecules have built up in one of the egg tracts and some how wrapped around the other tract hence never letting them pass. Or else a single egg from last year has ballooned, but i highly doubt that.

With any luck its just a heap of faeces.

You could try manipulating that lump down. Massage her belly, and gently over that spot see if you can get it to move. Otherwise, a reptile-orientated vet can X-ray it and be able to tell you what it is, and what can be done about it.

Took her to the vet today, they took some xrays and think its faecal impaction. He is referring to a snake specialist. In the mean time i'll keep taking her on the lawn for exercise and try the warm bath again. Thanks for the responses and hopefully we wont have to have her operated on. If any one has any more tips please let me know

Hey Clackers

Propbably not much you can do other than the baths and lawn time. You can up the temp at the hot spot to 36 degrees as long as the cool end is down into the 20's. Also put a water bowl at each end of tank so she has plenty to drink. Hopefully it is just feacal impaction. I wouldn't be pushing it or massaging her just in case it's not. It could be painful for her. A good reptile vet is definately the only answer.

Good Luck.

Let us know what happens...

What sort of substrate is in her enclosure ? is it possible she ate something a little extra last time she fed ?

The substrate has always been fake lawn. She has never fed in her cage. Always out on newspaper.

No, vet practice up here (remote SA) is operated by veterinary nurses, the vet linked up over skype and has only been sent high res photos of xrays. He will be here Thursday but is going to chase up specialist advice in the mean time.

wow, fingers crossed whatever it is passes ok,...

Gday Cagey, not sure how to message directly... but I made that cage. Its Kapur hardwood - Same as decking timber. 2000 x 1200 x 600mm. Went for an outback dunny look. 6mm laminated glass front. = heavy as. Got B1ME pulse dimmer, 250W ceramic plus two 30w matts. Day/night is UV fluoro and timer.

all the best mate keep us posted with what it emds up being as this will help others in a similar dilemma in the future btw very nie enclosure and kudos to u for building it yourself :)

definatley get a reptile vet to check it out.in my time with snakes i've had 2 pythons get cancerous tumors.one looked similar to yours and also had fecial matter built up because the tumor was cutting off the intestines.both of mine had to get put down.i hope yours has a different and better issue and good luck with it.
cheers

Had Vet appointment last night, as lump hasnt moved this week with the exercise and baths he is less inclined to think its faecal now. Next step is to open the snake for a look as he doesnt have ultrasound equipment or know how to get bloods.... He was open in saying that he can have a go but he has not done these before. I am phoning another Vet i have been recommended for an understanding of our options. It doesnt look good for Anna. Has anyone had surgeries like this that turned out well? Has any one had a blockage/impaction that work itself clear after two weeks of no action? Looking for personal accounts of how others have handled this. Thanks in advance.

Well, Anna had her op today and im sad to say she didnt make it. It was a cancer tumor and had developed right around/through her intestines. It was inoperable. Many thanks to those who provided comments, big thanks to the local vet and the nurses that took gentle care with her. RIP girl.

I had some pics taken of the operation and when i recieve them ill post for information to all.
