Have a clutch of 13 viable coastal eggs. Have noticed tonight after 2 weeks that they are quite hard to touch and dimpled extensively.

I'm using the water method which I've used before, but this has thrown me a bit? Any ideas, is there too much or not enough humidity in the tub that's causing them to go so hard and dimpled?

50%. I'm guessing this should probably be closer to 100%?
i cant say with snake eggs , but i know beardie eggs need to be up near the 100 mark [from past breeding exp] . i cant see why snake eggs would be any diffrent ?

100% is what youd aim for with python eggs.
Maybe to many air holes in your tub? I never put holes in my tubs unless its for a thermostat probe.

mate i had the same with my jungle eggs ( first clutch i have had ) and was told i didnt have enough humidity , so i blocked the holes and made the lid seal better and they came good .

cheers nico

You do not have to aim for 100% humidity with most python eggs, they actually do better being a bit drier.

Stick some sponges to the inside of the lid. Stops water from dripping on the eggs and raises the humidity. Use some super glue.

Good idea Nicole, and thanks for all the replies guys...

Only have the one hole for the thermo probe.

I sprayed the inside walls and perlite bedding last night and the humidity is now up around the 75% mark. The eggs are now slowly filling out again.

I incubated over water and had humidity readings of 99% on the egg mass, despite having one corner of the incubator lid propped up (made the condensation drips go away from the clutch). I also kept an open container of water in the bottom of the incubator to keep up the surrounding humidity. By the end of incubation, some of the eggs looked really squashed, but they were the first to hatch. The dimpling/caving in this case was obviously not due to inadequate humidity. Sounds like yours are back on track. I hope they do well for you.

hope all goes well for you wayne im sure it will the parents are both stunners goodluck
