Hi KenKitty, I too am in the hotter part of Nth Qld. I have a 60W Red Spot globe for the Heating. And that is ALL!!! I don't have anything in the hide. My BHP is now 12 months, and I was advised by an older and more experienced Herper to keep the Temp pretty constant for the first 12 months.

You can use whatever colour globe you want. I was also told by this herper (who also lives in the warmer part of Nth Qld) that I wouldn't need anything else until I move next year. He only uses Red Spot Globes, because he believes that Snakes can't see the red... Until I die & come back as a snake I can't tell you if this is fact or not.

He also told me the best thing you can do with a Heating Rock is cut the wires off it and use it as decoration. He also tried the Heating Mats, and was not impressed (and judging by the fact that he has a STACK of them in his workshop, I would say he bought first & regretted the wasted money.

I don't know if I have helped you much or not, but all I can tell you is that he's had snakes for quite awhile & he is almost my bible where it comes to caring for my snake. When I went into the EPA in Cairns they actually refered me to him. PM me if you would like his number, but I am going away from my computer for a few days, so if you can't reach me then maybe try ringing the EPA. The only other thing I would mention is that he doesn't always answer his phone... So leave a message & he should get back to you!!

As suggested above, a 60W Heat Source with a Cage Cover and a thermostat set to 32ºc should be fine, if it gets that hot during that season then I doubt that the heat source will ever be on.

Ooops, Thanks Chris89. I did forget to mention the Globe needs a Light cage around it!!! And also give the snake a hide at the hot end, and another at the cooler end... To explain that a bit better- you put the Globe up one end about 6 inches from each side... Mine is in the back corner of my enclosure. I only have a thermometre at the 'hot' end.

And Kenkitty... You might want to take your Caps Lock off... Capital letters means you are shouting!! Lol...:lol:
