I LOVE tree ferns, I think they're the coolest lookin plants, Ive got a Northfolk Is Tree fern in a pot out back and they have been known to grow over 15m high(largest is recorded at 22m).

Judy (trader) Started another fernary in a corner of our back yard. The dominant fern there is a Norfolk Island tree fern (Cyathea norfolkensis (sp??)). It is growing strong and steady. It is in the right position if it is going to get that big. :D

i like grass trees (formally known as blackboys) i know there not fern but i like em!!!

Yeah, I'm getting some from the markets soon, hope they don't die on me though cause they're bloody expensive.

Hey we have a couple we bought as tube stock at under $2 each. In another 200 years or so they should be quite something. If you grope the internet there are some sites that suggest that grown from seed you get something that is recognisable as a grass tree in about 5 years. Our look exactly as we planted them a year or so ago.

Cool, do you have any native cycads?

in the process of putting them in my out door enclosure at the moment, i love the look of them also

I want to bonsai a wollomi pine! I know they were creating cultivars for commercial sale, but i havent heard anymore about them, not seen them for sale yet.
I like dionea muscipula *spell (venus flytraps) justy cant get em to survive winter yet though, gonna have to invest in a greenhouse.

not at the moment though withing the next year i should have some great big native cycads. a mate has some growing wild on his land and has given me the offer of some. i wouldn't bother buying natives as they cost heaps and take so long to grow.

any pics of enclosures at all, would be great to see some out door setups and share ideas

one to start the ball rolling, this is the new outdoor enclosure a work in progress :)

More information please

So what are the quick growing cycads?

Where are you getting your native cycads? Why are they costing you so much?

My native one grows quicker than the sago palm I got from Bunnings.

I've been getting right into those too, despite my attempt at restraining myself. I bought one, which divided into about four, which I repotted seperately and now they've divided into about eight! It's important to winter them, they need to get cold each year, keeping them warm for years on end is bad for them. Depending on the variety they'll die down to some extent and then resprout in spring, bigger and better than before.

RE: More information please

I had some seed grown Zamia palms (WA cycad) that grew their second set of leaves in a mere 18 months.
Inny: try wrapping it in plastic and putting in the fridge over winter. Nuthn2do does something like that anyway and he's a bit of a guru on the carnivorous plants ;)
Seed grown blackboys are ok, but don't forget... they need fire every few years to ever look like a true blackboy.
