3 Months

:D

My mum freaked when we got our 3 months... it was up $200 from my lights and eveything. Ah well :D

Holy moly thats another reason I set my animals up the way I do. My animals only use around 80-100 extra over most of the year and 150-200 extra over winter. And thats heating 150-200 animals.
Rob

yeah something seems wrong if ya bill is that high.............we have about 14 lizards and 7 snakes and the bill only went up about $50 if that compared to what it was before reptiles.

Mines not much more in winter than summer but in summer i get massive bills from the airconditioning but you get that.Another reason i like heat tape and with the new microclimates you can't go wrong

Thats rediculous dude. Have you worked it out on the back of the bill to ensure it's correct. You would have to be running 3k constantly to get a bill like that.

Unfortunatly not all of Australia has Queenslands weather.

Wow, I was amazed when ours came in the other day at $400 which was up about $150 from pre reptile room days. I don't use any high wattage heating for my animals, like Browns I use heat tape, mats, cord mostly with good quality dimming thermostats. I think most of our increase is down to the cold weather we have been having in Brisbane and the new dishwasher :)

The price has blown me away too. :( But our bill has always been high, as you can see, the previous bill was $688.

Most of my rep heating is simple 40 - 60 watt globes, with only 1 heat cord in the place and that has only been on for the last month, I use flouro lighting for the reps. I blame the fishtanks, all running powerful canister filters (6), water heaters (7), and on the saltwater tank, a further pair of internal pumps and a UV steriliser.

HM was giving three of the tanks a 70% water change weekly which would pump the heating prices up too, as they are all large tanks and the heaters would have been working overtime to reheat the icelandic water coming out of our taps.

Other than a few computers, fridge, washing machine, weekly dryer and normal household lighting, the only other possible source would be the oil heater, but it hasn't been used as much this year as in previous years, so I really don't think that would be the cause. (Last year we ran 2 oil heaters constantly and didn't come anywhere near this).

Things are looking up though as the HM has now moved out (don't worry, he will still be paying his 50%) so the three big tanks have all gone too now, as of today. I will also be calling Energex to look into the account, as I still have my concerns.

I wonder if it is possible to bring an independant person in to survey electricity flow and costs? Does anyone know of such a thing?

Im sure your hydro setup is adding to the bill a fair bit too, so dont dismiss the needs of the ganja!!! LMAO

Our highest electricity bill since moving to sunny QLD was just over $1200. They've always been around the $750 mark but this one really hurt!

$1200 !!! That's all those turtles, especially those funny looking ones you have. You should just sell them and that would cut down the costs

Shoosh Teamsherman, I wouldn't be so peeved if I had a crop to help pay the costs. :D

Expansa1, thank you, you make me feel a little bit better, it could be worse.

Wrasse, get the company to check out the bill as that does seem high, the highest I have had is 1500 but that was when I had a lot of fish tanks as well and they do drink the juice with having at least one 300 Watt heater in each tank, my big tank had 4 in it! Fish out, reptiles in and bill has dropped remarkably.
It is easy to keep a check on your usage yourself and it only involves taking your own meter readings over the month and calculating the bill yourself. Set up an Excell spreadsheat and all you have to do is put the readings in and it will give you your usage and your approximate cost. I would advise anyone with a sizable collection to do this as it gives you a check against the power company. It won't however help if you have a faulty meter so it's still worth talking to the company.

Yes, I plan to ring them on Monday, to have it checked out. Thanks.
