Hey I've just been wondering has anyone thought of this lately, Will the prices of reptiles go up with the huge increase of electricity prices? As this is a major factor to keeping & breeding them...... Just a thought I had...... I personally haven't bred before I just keep them so just thought I would throw it out there

The hobby is like bottled water, we have things that survive all by themselves in the wild, but we choose to stick them (or most of them) in artificially powered boxes  Quite funny really. If anything the price should 'go down' as they are expensive to keep this way, thus harder to sell

If you run a 20 watt mat 24/7, which is what i use for all my pythons you are talking 0.5 kilowatt hour a day or about 15cents depending upon tarriff rates. Half the heating time and halve the power costs.Reptiles are used as an excuse for high power bills. A drpping hot tap probably costs about the same in terms of power. I keep 500 snakes for less than $2000 a year in terms of power. Now rats on the other hand is a different story ; They cost well into five figures each year to keep them frozen.

as soon as my snakes are big enough they go out into pits in the yard i raise the babys inside using heat pads and they don't seem to chew much powder then outside they go. same with lizards they all go into pits

Oh, to have Queensland's climate ;)

We've got a heat cord setup. Works fine for us, minimal cost overall :)
