Hi I'm seeking advice if my new enclosure would be suitable for a BHP. The enclosure is 1.3M x 1M x0.6M. It is taller than it is long and has a heatlamp in the top right wit a basking shelf underneath. It is the large AFS enclosure. Any advice would be apreciated as I'm pretty new at reptile keeping. Thanks

Thanks for trhe info. I'm told by the present owner/breeder he is a male yearling just over 12 months old and about 50cm long and about 20cent piece circumferance. He is in a click clack at present. Also would the heating setup be suitable fopr a BHP ie with a branch to climb up to the basking shelf

It seems a bit small,a yearling BHP that is 50cm,there born around that size,a female i have that is a yearling 13months is nearly 5ft(144cm).IMO i wouldnt worry about having a basking shelf,i have a heatcord thats running through wire into a 30cm square and i have a tile over the cord in one corner..I would personally have a longer enclosure then a higher one for BHPs.The bigger the better also,as they can get around the 8ft mark.I will be having my adults in 1800mm long x 450mm high x 800mm depth..

Thats what I thought that it is a little small for a yearling born Oct 2009. It is feeding on a small rat every 5-7 days. I have not seen the snake just talked to the breeder she says the parents are male 6ft and female 7ft. She says she has it in a 50cm "clic clack" at present and that it is getting to big for the clic clack. SAlso is $350.00 a reasonable price for a yearling BHP. Thanks

I agree. My BHP enclosure is 6ft long. My boy occasionally climbes a branch but for the most part stays on the ground, a tall enclosure will be wasted on a BHP.

just like what python73 said its a bit small for a yearling my dajarra black head was born Jan 1st 2010 and is already 5+ foot long and she ate a jumbo rat 2 days ago and was the first time she seamed almost satisfied with her meal and she still has a bit of a bulge now which is a first normally by the next day you cant tell that she ate the day before they eat heaps and grow really really quick and are very active always looking for food but beautiful and placid.
Cheers Deano

Thanks for the replies I'll get back to the breeder to confirm how big the GTP is. It was hatched 22/11/09 so is a bit over a year old.

From a BHP to a Chondro..are you sure it isnt a Jungle or Olive...

Sorry yes my mistake it is a Black head python I'm new to this and still get confused with all the abreviations.

I use 1800 long 400 high and 600 wide for my BHP as adults. i use heat mat under a sheet of glass for them to bask on.
The pic is 4ft cages for my womas.. . you can see the glass in the right of the cage. you can use a router and do the same with heat cord. i just silicon the thermostat probe to the top of the glass.

Hey Smeejason have you had any sheets of glass cracking from the heat.I generally do the same thing however i use a thin tile over a heatcord...I route out grooves so the headcord can sit in it and then place the tile over it,works great...Also for some smaller species i route out the groove and use heat tape to give me a bigger area thats warm in one corner...

never had it crack buddy

Hey Smeejason they look really nice. Did you build them yourself? I have a questions about the thermostat. You said you silicon the probe to the glass. Is this this method good for click-clacks too? I am planning on using a heat mat a tile inside as a basking spot and didn't know where the probe should go.

Yeh i built it myself.
i have always sat a tile on the heat mat then sat the click clack on that. i just attach the thermo with blue tack to the tile and with my temp gun set it to around 32 in the click clack.just use 2 tiles one on the hot end and one on the cold so that you only heat 1/3 of the click clack.
