Has anyone else had an OzBright light completely explode?? :(

My poor Bearded dragons (and me) nearly died of fright this morning when their Oz Bright simply exploded with no warning. Luckily there is a wire mesh lid between them and the light, but small bits of glass still got into their cage, and my carpet even got burned by a piece of the light. Now I am really nervous leaving these lights on in the house when I am not home! :?

I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had this happen, and whether there is anything I could do to minimise the chance of it happening again?

Damn straight id be contacting them. Take some pics of the damage and the burnt carpet too Sheri.

I'd say you've just been unlucky Sheralyn, when you consider the thousands of these that are in use there is bound to be the odd one or two with a manufacturing defect. It's just a damn shame when the odds happen to go with you isn't it? I would say chalk it up to bad luck and keep using the globes as long as you are using the genuine ones and not one of the cheap copies that are around.

I couldn't agree more.

I have never had this happen to any of my Oz-Brites YET. This does not sound good at all. Did your snake splash any water on it by accident with a flick of his tail? All it takes is one little drop. I did this once to a 60W heat globe and it exploded everywhere. I don't mean to make you sound stupid, just a thing that could happen :)

I think she means the carpet on the ground DP, the stuff you vacuum every now and then!! LOL ;) ;)

Ooops, I read too quickly. My bad

I was wondering why she would have a carpet snake and use an Oz-brite globe. Didn't make sense to me but I read and type as fast as I talk :)

Make sure no part of the bulbs glass is touching anything, i know this makes infrareds explode.

At the very least, if you contact the supplier/manufacturer, I'd reckon you'd be up for a few freebie replacements! ;-)

Hell yeah! I would be, plus they would wanna keep you quiet.

Haven't had any explode but one of mine did play up, flickering on and off, I contacted my supplier and they sent a new one to me. The other Ozbright is going strong.

Spoke to the supplier and he called the manufacturer and was told that they have now sold 10,000 and never had this happen. They suggested that it might have been splashed with water (this is definitely NOT the case as the beardies were basking under it at the time and were not near their water bowl). I had to buy a replacement, because my beardies have no UV at the moment, plus I'll probably be up for repairs to the carpet as I am renting. Needless to say I am not very happy at the moment!

Ummmm...not good I must say I havent had Ozlight do that, but I have had normal house lights do it...and Like yourself no chance of water involvement, didnt find the reason why guess just a faulty unit...
