Hey guys,
Just gave my snake a rat to eat. He's had the same size from the same people 4 times before.

Anyway he's kinda being silly.... he was starting to eat at its head, but stopped and is now just hovering between the head and the tail like he doesn't know how to eat it... or can't work out where to start? The main point is he's tried to eat its butt, it's leg, it's head.... etc.

Do I just monitor him and hope for the best or intervene and if so how (without getting tagged)

Doesn't matter how the snake eats it, as long as it's not too big to get down. Sometimes they eat them back-end first. Funny that you should call the snake silly when you obviously have very little knowledge of and experience with snakes - the animal probably knows a lot more about managing its life than you do...

Just leave him alone. If it is still there this afternoon chuck it out. My bet is it will be gone. One of mine's record for eating is almost 1 and a half hours, but then he isn't the brightest spark.

Cheers guy.
I was taught if I'm not sure or worried about something, I'd better ask instead of just guessing and assuming, ya know?
And thought what better place to do so it than a snake forum? I'll think twice next time.

Thanks everyone else :)

my coastal swallowed a rat bum-first once. it was really interesting to see him throw a coil over to tuck the rats legs in so that he could get his mouth around it properly. stress less
