RE: FINALLY!!!! I

I am still waiting for my licence renewal. It expired 30th Sept and I paid for it on 24th Sept so technically I don't have a wildlife licence yet own a snake?? Work that one out.

RE: Re: RE: FINALLY!!!! I

DP, they processed my export permit before they processed my licence renewal. I had paid for my license a week before my export application but they still wouldn't admit it was their fault they knocked back my permit due to an expired license!! Go Figure :)
Must say though, they are normally very good and very prompt, it was just a very busy period for them as it was returns time of year.

RE: Re: RE: FINALLY!!!! I

I find them to be very slow. When I applied for my licence earlier in the year, they also said they were very busy and there was a delay. Is there ever a quiet period for the DSE???

RE: Re: RE: FINALLY!!!! I

I always deal with them face to face ( easy to do in Adelaide ) and remove postage (and the internal mail) out of the equation. Speeds things up considerby. And always get a name or business card so you have a name to hunt if things take their time.

RE: Re: RE: FINALLY!!!! I

is it illegal to not have a current licence even if u have sent the application in way b 4 the thing expires?

RE: Re: RE: FINALLY!!!! I

sorry about the late reply, friend downloaded a nasty little virus onto my computer!!!!!!

It took so long for my licence as they"didn't receive it". It came back in the mail twice!!!!

Now I own 4 of the most beautiful beardes. all been in the wars. one has no front legs, gets around fine, and as fat as butter, the others are missing a back leg in some way. Funny thing is, 3 of them are sweet as pie. let me handle them all that jazz, but one of them.......................... oh my goodness, what a nasty little thing. I just have to stick my hand in the cage, and he'll shoot out from where ever he is and go me!!!!! Like a rabid dog!!! I'm not talking the usual hissing, beard showing....... oh no, he will physically jump up and try and bite me!!!!!! Then when i remove my hand and shut the door, he still tries to get me throught the glass until I walk away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any suggestions?? I'm handling him gently, feed him when I have him out of the cage (bribery usually works, but not in this case) etc......................... help!! I can't have an aggressive beardie in with the others, I'm worried he made attack the handicaped one. I am keeping an eye, and nothing yet, but still, the worry is there. Would it be best to seperate him from the others??

RE: Re: RE: FINALLY!!!! I

He most certainly sounds like he has been mal-treated before. What you can do is that if he lounges at you, chuck a piece of yummy food of some kind into his opened mouth and that'll keep him busy and quite stunned for a while. He will learn to associate you with good things.

And you have to realise that it will only take a few seconds for a quick change of mood and for him to chew off the limbs of your handicapped one (if you're lucky, that's the only thing that will happen). What you should also be worried about is him taking all the food and leaving your handicapped beardie with nothing left to eat. Keep them well fed, and seperately fed if you can. Big beardies intimidate and stress out little or handicapped ones.

RE: Re: RE: FINALLY!!!! I

Thanks, I'm already handfeeding the handicaped one, just to be sure, and I seperate grumpy from the rest when i put food in. (not hard, open door, throw crickets in, shut door, open other door and wait for vicious attack, pick up, get bitten several times, hand feed grumpy, put back in and then hand feed handi) I'm trying the briberly thing with grumpy, so that he does think i'm not gonna hurt him, but give him yummy treats. But it's been a few weeks now, and no change, so i'm thinking that he might graduate to his own cage. dammit!!!!

RE: Re: RE: FINALLY!!!! I

No worries. Also, was he a nice beardie or has he changed attitudes before? But I suppose that wouldn't be accurate anyway considering you just got him. I'm thinking that it could be due to the possibility of an increase coccidia. Beardies have coccidia in their bodies in a controlled concentration but when they get stressed it could increase and make them very peculiar. I suggest taking him to the vet that knows about reptiles. Don't take him to just any vet. They'll tell you that your lizard doesn't look like a monkey so it's fine. They don't know nuts :D.

RE: Re: RE: FINALLY!!!! I

Hmm, contradicting to what I said, coccidiosis has a few symptoms which you haven't mentioned, so maybe it could just be due to a minimum increased concentration. Still thinking, we'll work it out dragonett! Never give up on your beardies :)
