we made alcohol (70%) in year 10 science lab with fermented watermelons that was a fun day!

Indeed Pinkie. It's lovely how the Board of Studies gets us kiddies hooked so early with these wonderful compulsary practicals. The year 12 chemistry topic "Production of Materials" has a dot pointed worded - "solve problems, plan and perform a first hand investigation to carry out the fermentation of glucose and monitor mass change". While it doesn't specifically say to distill the ethanol produced, the teachers just can't help themself.. and neither could some of the students.

Go to your local home brew shop and talk to them. Ours sells both the brewing kit needed to get the 'wine' and the still to distill it. You can buy the lot for around $600 and can brew 98% pure ethanol with it. The still comes with built in heater elements so it's plug and play.
Hix... under 5L maybe? Our shop gets around this problem by selling you the top end and the bottom end (container) seperately. Of course, you'd be breaking the law to use it to distill alcohol....

My Uncle is Serbian i went down to 2 sydney a while back for the wedding and he pulled some wicked stuff out at like 8:30am it was unbeleivable.
Sounds very similar to what you are doing Slatey they distile and i remember him saying something around 70%alc.
Was very sweet but had a kick.

Robert you are right. That is our habit from old europe. Most aussies cant drink it to well. It is nearly double the strenght then whisky.

Yep David. I must say that drinking of the real stuff 78% alcohol is hard for Australian man. The drop I gived to steve and to the other guys was deluted to 55%.
Must say that Steve the pom did hold it inside for at least 1.5 hour. Mabe is not wise to mix it with beer.

A Swedish mate of mine living in the UK makres his own Aquavit, says it's 80-90%. I've seen him pull a bottle of it out of a chest deep freezer and it was still liquid.
