So Im at summer school atmo in Brisbane (takes me 1 1/2 hrs on a good day to get in to uni). Due to the rain some roads are cut and public transport is not running in some areas that I have to go through to get to uni. So I decided its best if I stay home today and not risk it as last year I got stuck in Brisbane for some time and had to stay at a teachers place. So I rang uni to inform them and this is the chat that followed:
Lady on phone: "Why can t you make it?"
Me: I live on the Sunshine coast and there's flash flooding, roads/bus/trains are closed or not running well atmo"
Lady: Oh is it raining that bad?! Cant you drive in?!"
Me:" Uuumm no. Like I said roads are closed."
Lady:" Oh well try and get in if you can."
Me:" Ok let me try this again. I will not be in. Its flooding and I can not drive or get public transport. There is NO WAY I can get in to uni. Its 1 1/2 hours trip in on a good day. Today is not a good day." Lady:" Ooohh well, Id still try if you can. It cant be that bad".......................
Me:"I give up"

Could not believe this lady. She could not understand why I could not make it in.
Rant over

There are roads flooded & closed everywhere down here at the moment....she only has to check the news.......or look outside!

I took the kids to school, came back & my dogs are swimming around my front yard......maybe i should have sent pj's for the kids......they may have to sleep there tonight! ;)

some people jusss need to get a life, tell the lady to loook outta the window,, water everywhere :)

take care

might be worth it if you are studying weather or marine biology??? lol

I'm not complaining - I got sent home from work and I work on the 2nd story of an office building. Winning!
But seriously, hope everyone is safe. Some people dont seem to grasp the concept of floods...

We are in the same boat. Wifes work wants staff tonight but it just isn't worth the risk driving to brissy.
And on a related subject, the state government has for the past six weeks been running a safety campaign about crossing flooded causeways (If it's flooded, forget it) yet there have been lots of rescues and it appears at least two are missing. Ipswich SES boss says take cars off drivers who ignore warning signs and go into flood waters as rain continues | News, events and sport for Ipswich | The Courier-Mail

Couldn't you paddle there in a canoe?.. Come on :p
