RE: Re: RE: For Sale Forum

What Fuscus says make sense. If you seriously want to sell an animal then you need to have the best ad possible.
Funnily enough I had not read the Diamond Pythons for Sale ad when I commented on "nice snake" comment and when I just read it...what did I find.

RE: Re: RE: For Sale Forum

Yeah, more rules and lets enforce em now!
I think there should be tick and click just to respond to a topic.

I'm with you mate all posts become moderated I reckon, before they're put on the board that is :)

RE: Re: RE: For Sale Forum

Na i don't think we need to resort to that, when sites have that it ****s me cause u feel like then someone else "in power" can cut in and take the good sales b4 u. i dunno, guess i'm paranoid.

Hey look - Jimmy used exclaimation marks looks like we move further from the apocalypse.
Anyhow IMHO each for sale article should have
Pics - if possible
Price
Location - It really bugs me when you see local buyers only and no location
If the item is an animal then we should also have
Total length
Wieght
Pics with a way to guage size, say have to victim next to a ruler
General condition
Feeding habits
Disposition

Yeah, I agree and also how many there are for sale, location and whether they are willing to freight... stuff like that.

Perhaps like a template sort of thing where the seller fills in the blanks!!

People will post pics if they have the ability to do it and can be bothered. If one or the other isn't the case, they won't. Same goes for all the other stuff like saying local buyers only and not including a location. If you're too lazy/stupid etc to put stuff like that in, you're only reducing your own chances of making a sale. IMHO if someone wants to put an ad in like 'snake for sale $230' that's fine, I'll say to myself "If you'd put in a species, description, location etc etc, I might have considered it, but with an ad like that I'm not going to bother thinking about it" (I've seen ads with no more description than that, although not on this site). Often, people even forget to put in a price  but hey, it's their ad and they can do what they like.

I personally like to put in as much information as I possibly can, but I've spoken to some people who really hate that, they like it concise, such as
'knob tailed geckoes 1.2 juvenile, $300 location, number', whether they're buying or selling.

A template system may work well, as it would eliminate some symptoms of stupidity, but sometimes it's good to have stupidity displayed, it says something about the seller and whether or not they're worth buying from

like sdaji said, if u want to sell then you would add as much info as possible.....otherwise it turns ppl away.

for sale threads should be locked IMO, the person can add all their info and all response can be done through pm.........thus saving things like what has happened in for sale forums today............JMO

We can't automatically lock a forum, although your idea has merit, I think. However, the seller would have to PM a moderator to edit the post and advise that it has been sold. Policing that could become a chore. We'd have to PM everyone who has an item posted on a regular basis and wait for a response, which may not always be forthcoming.

The seller/buyer would probably get sick of our reminder PM's, particularly if it took a while to sell. Difficult one! I think we are best off leaving it as it is at the moment, but remind everyone that posts in those forums must be only related to the topic. We will continue to moderate the forums to remove unrelated posts.

Lock it.
If the person doesn't pm you and ask you to change it to sold (or delete it) then they continue to get annoying pm's or phone calls, no skin off your nose.

look at the atmosphere on here already in for sale forums, doubt it can get any worse...........could always trial it for a short while to see how it pans out.

y not just try the templates first? then if that doesn't work we can step it up to the fulll lock down.

because its straight foward and no friendly exchanges, everything u get is 3rd person type stuff (already gone through the mods).

No, you place an ad, same as if you put an ad in a newspaper.
People contact you to reply to the ad.
If you want to chat you go to chit chat.
The mods have nothing to do with it, there is NO replies allowed.

If you really want to sell you'll give all the info you want public in the add. It's not as if your paying by the word and then interested parties can PM or email you for further details.
The more bandwith "shop and swap" slurps the more likely the webmaster is to remove the forum or charge for it's use.

I like the current set up where people can ask questions?
So what if someone forgets to put a photo and someone has to ask. Geez theres 15 seconds of your life you wont get back. A photo is not really going to do a reptile justice and if someone is really so concerned over the snakes appearance then they should only buy locally where they can inspect herps before they buy them.
I don't think there is a need for a template. Why cater for the idiots? If someone can not write a decent ad with all the necessary info then I am not going to bother buying anything from them. Like Sdaji said, it is a good guide as to what sort of person you are dealing with.
Why lock the threads? It is usually the same morons posting junk in the classifieds? Just lock the morons, problem solved.
