For anyone interested there is a comet visible with the naked in the early hours of the morning. If you look in the south east at around 3am to 4am you should be able to see its large tail at nearly 90degrees to the horizon. Quite large but not overly bright but still visible with the naked eye.

yea i use red lights in my setup but sucks when the cops keep questioning you when you are in a dark park with your scope thinking your up to no good lol.

I know there's only two in my street and one has to be right in the way, and at 4am with work next day I wasn't keen to leave my bedroom for the shot.

I was up in the Vic high country in Jan 2007 when Mcnaught paid us a visit. I felt like I could have reached out and touched it. By far the most spectacular thing I've ever seen in the night sky. Thanks for the photos guys, I missed this one.

McNaught was extraordinary. You could see that one with the naked eye in the middle of the city, but for maximum effect I went out to the country. I'm so glad I went to the trouble.

Oh no. I wonder if they thought you were aiming a rocket launcher. Did you let them have a peek through your 'scope?
