1. AAE (Australian Air Express)

2. AAE (Australian Air Express)

3. I dont keep lizards so have never freighted any but I assume its basically the same. each reptile in a seperate calico bag tied at the top. I beleive AAE requires you to double bag reptiles but usually never check. the calico bags go into a platic tub (or styrofoam box) that has air holes, loosely packed with shredded paper around the bags and taped shut. this box is placed in a cardboard box (like standard Australia Post boxes) again with some air holes and loosely packed with some shredded paper and taped shut. AAE requires reptiles to be double boxed in secure containers. receiver's name, city and phone number on box usually with "Pick up from Airport" and also the senders name, city and contact phone number. I also write my licence number and NSW export permit number (if its going interstare) on the side as well as attaching a copy of the NSW DECC export permit to the box in one of those stick on clear envelopes. take out to the AAE terminal at the airport, fill in the consignment docket details, have the box weighed and pay the freight charges. I usually sms or phone the receiver with the flight number, time departs Sydney and time it should arrive at destination. freighting early morning I find best.

4. AAE freight costs for average freight for me costs between $50-$60 from Sydney to most capital cities or interstate destinations but will vary with weight and location. If the reptiles are going interstate from Sydney you also need to apply for a NSW DECC exort permit that costs $30 per permit. Freighting within NSW doesnt require any export permit. the receiver usually has to show photo ID (drivers licence) to pick up from the AAE office at the other end.

thats roughly the procedure but I've probably missed out a few details.

Calling AAE and asking them would be best, and if the reptiles are going interstate from NSW you can download the export (or import permit) here http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/resources/wildlifelicences/importExportLicenceApplication.pdf

yes I use calico bags for hatchling pythons

Straight from the AAE FAQ's page:

"How do we pack Reptiles?
Snakes under 60cm must be bagged, goose necked and in a hard plastic box. A snake over 60cm and any lizards must be bagged, goose necked and in a wooden box."

I dont know why lizards have to be in a wooden box and most people use a hard plastic box anyways.

Also you need to book them ahead of time now.

freighting hatchling lizards

who out there freights hatchling lizards what advice could you give someone who has not freighted them before what to pack them in what age should they be sent how long should it be before someone is to collect them etc.
many thanks

hi there i have freighted a couple of times. i wont freight them until they are atleast a month and are holding good condition as it is stressful for them. i put them in chinese containers with air holes inside another larger container surrounded by newspaper so the smaller container cant slide around ect give them a bath the morning or the freight so they are nice and hydrated. if its a decent distance dont feed them before hand or they poop and have to sit in it. hope this helps
