hey guys,

i just found one of my snakes, a female bredli, with a nasty little burn on her back, and a smaller one on her tail. just wondering what you would do?? i know i have to take her to the vet, but i was wondering if any of you have any 'home remedies' as such for burns... eg, creams/salves, ointments??

I dont know how she got burnt, as there is a cage around the light, and it doesnt get warm enough to burn any of the snakes in the enclosure. I have 2 x female diamonds and the bredli in the same tank, but only the bredli has burns. :/

any help would be greatly appreciated. and pictures will be posted tomoro of tank and burns.

do you have any other forms of heating in the enclosure ,benadine can be used bebantham used on kids is fantastic,i also use alovera pulp used fresh every time.silverzine cream can also be used so i was informed but check on that one with vet and always administer antibiotic over 21days at 3 day intervals intermuscular injections regards mick

If you're sure it's burns, silvazine cream is good. I had to use on my MD when she shed down to her dermal layer of skin and it fixed her right up, so I'm pretty sure it's safe for snakeys.

yeah pretty sure its burns, and no there's no other form of heating in the tank.. it has me really confused. :? thanks heaps guys, for the advice, it has been greatly appreciated.

Silvazine is fantastic. Keep her dry. I have heard a lot of ppl recommend bathings but I am a firm believer that this can do more harm than good. Water gets in under the skin and soaks into the wounds new infections can arrise from the water remaining there. But of course, you do what your vet says, he knows best. But I have had a couple of burn victims. 4 weeks after one was burnt I thought I'd give him a bath. Bad move, he went down hill and died within two weeks. He started bleeding and died during a shedding. The 2nd time was one of my larger pythons. I kept him dry as recommended by a reputable breeder, applying the silvazine twice a day and he healed well. When he shed, retained skin stuck to the injured areas. Don't try and pull it off. All you will do is risk re-opening up healing wounds. Leave the skin there. As he heals you will see over time that is will get better on its own without you intervening with shedding. If your snake has a large water bowl, I suggest taking it out and giving him a small one that he can't fit into.

my dad said not to put water on my beardies cut and burn so soon enough they healed,so the same with snakes so put a bit of medicene and leave it.

Mysnakeau's advice is solid. My only addition is the source of the burn. You really need to find out how it happened or it will re-occur. I would suggest that if the cage is not hot then your heat lamp is not hot enough. The cage is to stop direct contact with the source. The basking spot should be low to mid 30's. This will negate the desire to get closer to the heat source.

When my snake shed double layers of skin off I used silvazine once a day and misted her every couple of hours, otherwise her skin would dry and crack, opening a bunch of cuts up. But burns might be best with no water at all, I don't know, never had a burnt snake.
