Good morning all,

i woke up this morning to 2 little eggs in my levis tank!
i got the incubator up and running but i have no perlite! will they be okay in there on sand untill i get some after work?

also one has been pretty squashed by being covered with sand will it survive or should i chuck it? the other one is normal shape!

Thanks

Good work!

I have tried incubating 4 eggs on sand, and the rest on vermiculite. 3 out of the 4 have dies, but thats because i used to much water. They will be fine on sand. And the squashed one should also be alright. I would never chuck an egg as weird things can happen. And remember to be really careful not do disturbe them to much, and not to roll them.

awesome should i dampn the sand at all or just leave it dry? i removed them from the tank and put a light under to see what end was what! darker side should be on bottom rite? or shud the lighter side be on the sand?

Less water is better than to much water. And i dont know the ratios of water and sand, so i would only put a bit in, but i had no luck. You should of marked the op of the egg with a pen, then put them in the incubation tub how they were laid, with the pen side up.

ahh okay now im worried! should of took my time instead of trying to get ready for work!

okay well ill mist the sand lightly! should i take the eggs out before i mist or are they okay to get a little wet?

if sand is a bad option i should be able to get some perlite after work! what ratio should i mix that with water? is it 50/50? whats the best way to make sure u get 50/50?

i hope there rite side up! =/

Move the eggs carefully when you spray. The first time i had eggs they were all sandy so i poured the water over them...that didnt go well in the long run.

I never said sand was a bad option, its just i dont know the ratios for it, and it didnt work well for me. 1:1 by weight. Use the kitchen scales or what ever you can use to weigh each. I have also seen that someone uses 4:6 water:perlite.

And the eggs should be alright, its later on that its really bad if they are turnned. But they are pretty hardy if you get all of the other stuff right.

Surely you knew she was gravid and should have sorted this prior to her dropping her eggs ?

I would not wet the eggs .
The easiest way to get your ratios right is to weigh out the amount of perlite / vermic or in your case sand , then weigh the same amount in water.
Dont throw out eggs till they are completely stuffed , you just never know.

thanks for your help snakes123!

i had no idea that she was gravid as i keep pythons not geckos im minding these geckos for a friend on holiday!
ill be swaping them over onto the perlite when i get hm!

i read them temps to keep them on is 28 - 30 so i got them on 29.5! and they take roughlt 50 day to hatch?

Yeah about that, maybe a bit longer than 50, but i havnt been counting. And ive got mine on 29.5 aswell.
