What do people use for their Gecko laybox substrate? I have been using coir peat I think it is (the stuff you buy from bunnings and mix with water) and had a bad experience whereby there was some of the coir peat substrate left on an egg and I could not get it off and the egg became mouldy in the incubator. Could have been an infertile gecko egg but just wondering if there was a better substrate I could be using.

I use sand for Nephrurus species and vermiculite for most other species.

as a complete amateur i probably shouldn't comment, but i used sterilised spagnum moss in a little plastic container for my girls. i now have four little leseuers from 8 eggs (the high thirty days in the garage cooked the first bunch i believe).
i'm interested to hear what works with proper gecko breeders

I used to have the sand mounded up nice and deep in the cool end for them to lay in but I now use laying tubs as it doesn't require as much sand in the enclosures and having the moist sand in 2 litre decor tubs means that it doesnt dry out as quickly so less maintenance.
