The WHO are probably a bit anxious because we're overdue for a major pandemic, so when a new virus comes along they're becoming increasingly nervious, and of course, the media likes to overhype everything.
When swine flu first came along (this wave of it anyway), those analysing it could be forgiven for thinking it was more severe than it was, but we now know better. The only potential problem is that it's a new virus with a high probability of mutating. If/when it mutates, it might turn into something which barely makes you sneeze, or it might turn into something which will kill most of the people on the planet. We don't know. The odds are, it's just going to be a relatively minor virus which goes around like the others, makes us sick, and unless you're unlucky enough to have an unusual complication, you'll just cough, sneeze and ache a little for a few days.
It doesn't seem to be a recession cover up though. The media is behind the hype, and they don't have a huge interest in distracting us towards swine flu. They're just doing what they do best; milking a story for every last drop.
I reckon it's the school kids behind it. One kid gets regular flu and they pass it around and gets sick. If it's swine flu they're all on holiday for a week, sick or not! The kid who gets pig disease must be such a hero!
