Grrrr! Got our letter today from the local council re our so called non-compliance to the Development Act 1993. Now we have to have a good read and work out what to do. Got 21 days to comply(put in an application for development of an "intensive farming activity" or we have to completely stop production and even remove or destroy the so called offending structures. The thing is this guy down the end of the road found a rat and put in the anomynous complaint re the smell of our little hobby farm. The darn sod. Everyone round here gets the occasional fruit rat because of the Almond Orchards round here. The fruit rats(or feral ones) lurrrve almonds eh? Ours look nothing like these other rats. Ours are coloured ones. Anyway, we'll keep you up dated with what we are doing, ok? Cheers Cheryl

I just wish we'd been making our fortune out of the RR, but we haven't due to lots of expenses such as power, etc, etc, etc. The thing is we have to put in this application, pay all the darn fees, and even then they might not even approve it.?We were originally told we didn't have to apply for anything due to ours being a hobby biz.? Oh well I'll see what Dave thinks of all the paper work when he gets home from work.

Crikey a letter now too? put it to good use, line the MD's tub! :D Sorry to hear of these troubles, but i reckon you'll bounce back, might be a sign to get into reptile breeding instead, or insects? :D Maybe another go at Froggies! :D

Are you able to operate "within the development act" just on a smaller quantity at all, or there is no provision for that at all ?

Has anyone been out to see the setup Cheryl?? They should have sent someone along to see it before they send any letters. How else would they know you are doing something wrong without them actually seeing it.

Don't worry Huggy, someone has been out to have a look. She said "is this the worst it ever smells?" - just smelled like wood shavings(cos, don't forget, that was the so-called complaint from a neighbour(anomynously) down the end of the street re smell(not the finding of a bloody rat) - the closest 6 neighbours have no complaints at all mind you). We might have to get a signed letter from those six which would be no probs at all if we decide to go ahead with the Development Application.

For a start give the guy down the road a hefty kick in the balls  .
Might not get you anywhere but it would make you feel better :D

... or we could let some hots go in his back yard! ;-)

my idea of releasing a venomous snake into his house is looking better by the day! what do you think, deathadder or taipan :)

It's pretty sad when you have ppl whinge for buggar all reason. Worst part is now the council is involved they will follow it through as they have to act on complaints and even if there is no smell and it is well set up if it is not correct, as in to the letter of the law, you will have to sort it out. If only ppl would talk to their neighbours, it makes life so much better.

Good luck with it anyhow, I hope it works out for you. and if it doesn't then
For a start give the guy down the road a hefty kick in the balls .
this would be a great start.....LOL:D

Eastern brown....cranky things they are.

There is no way that the offending neighbour would know, and I also have an idea that you are mentioning it in a joking respect  But if "vens" were to be realeased into said neighbours property, it would just give him/her more fuel for the fire (saying the rodents attracted the snakes).
The best and easiest way, although a pain in the rear for rodentrancher, would be to meet council spec's and get the appropriate permits :) Then go and rub the permits in his (neighbours) nose and also kick him in the balls :p

kick him in the balls

that i'd like to see,

i hope it goes ok for you and dave,
as a fellow rat and mouse breeder i feel
for you both, as i said in my pm, try to fight
them to the end, it's hard to beat the councel
but not impossible,
as with everybody else here, we hope you can
keep doing what you are,

I just wish we'd been making our fortune out of the RR, but we haven't due to lots of expenses such as power, etc, etc, etc

we know how that is cheryl, it costs us anywhere between $180.00 to $250.00 every week just on rat and mice food, and at $1.00 to $3.00 for the average mouse or rat, it takes a lot just to cover the food costs before the bedding, power, cages, bags, and the time you spend cleaning and feeding them, not to forget the costs of the extra freezers for storage,

best wishes cheryl and hoping for the right outcome for you both.....

cheers,
steve...........

That's so annoying to hear Chez :( Some people really have no life! If you're immediate neighbours aren't complaining, why the hell is it the duty of Dr Tookit down the end of the street??? Grrrr makes ME mad just thinking about it!

I hope you can find a loophole :? Good luck!
