I think a ban on natives as pets is unfair, i reckon keeping natives encourages awarness of them and hence furthers intrest in conserving them and their habitats. They wouldnt get my vote for that alone. I do agree with a few points though, but ill keep which ones to myself methinks. :)

Ridiculous plans they have, and many not achievable as far as I'm concerned. Note the date at the top though, with Tail Docking now illegal.

That policy is a load of crap! Phasing out the keeping of caged birds. Phasing out zoos and fauna parks that fail to deliver their (the Green's) principles.

They don't identify what they call an animal, either. Do those principles apply to pet Bird-Eating Spiders, or an Ant Farm? And if so, does that mean in future they will try and phase out Mortein, Baygon and Pea Beu to protect out "native animals" i.e insects?.

3.3 says they will work for "effective control of feral animals to protect native habitats and native species". So will they abolish the lucrative Honey industry, and search for ways to control the honeybee, an introduced species that is crowding out the native species?

I like to think of myself as an environmentalist (or at least environmentally-minded), and some of their ideas are good, but most appear to be over-the-top-extremist without concern for the individuals who are going to be affected.

Just my two cents worth. Not that I care about politics that much.

:p

Well said Hix.

The "Greens" seem to have an absurd way of caring for our native animals as well imo (according to that). Though there are a few things I agree with, the policy as a whole is idiotic.

Nothing to worry about they'll always be a non-entity cause they are loonies. :D

The big shame is that the greens do some great things about preserving native forests, but seem to have no idea about native animals.

If this were ever to become the case. I think we should proclaim that its our bit for conservation. Think of how many ational Parks staff would lose their jobs at the end of licencing.

I'm going to take it up with some green party members ( one owns a cat  ) next time I see them. You have to remember that greens come in all shades, from those who beleave we should only eat and wear hemp from plants that died of natural causes to people who are only interested in water conservation or recycling.

And some who like to live like a nature lovers by driving 6 cylinder 4WD and smoking grass they purchase for doll money LOL.

People vote for these "green" wankers without even knowing what they "really" stand for. It's like hollywood movie star dicks who do adverts for PETA. If PETA had their way they would ban fishing, eating meat owning pets and the like. Hell they even ran a campain telling people they should not eat honey because humans had enslaved bees to produce food for them.
And the RSPCA is not too far behind them either in my books.

that reminds me of the ad campaign directed at uni students in the US - the aim was to get them to drink beer not milk :D

So true. My ex votes green and i KNOW she has no political knowledge of them whatsoever. She just considers herself a nature loving person (and she is to a degree) and... well I can't explain it.

Uneducated drivel on the whole and some of the Greens policies are as well.

Labors view

I rang the Shadow Minister for the Environment's office this morning.
The Labor party has the view with native captive wildlife to actually try and expand on the species that can be kept. "We do not support the view of the green's and see the green's as doing their typical hardline conservation message to try and win dedicated green conservation votes." he went on to say "In turn doing themselves and the animals that are already kept and injustice." The labour party see's the conservation effort of breeders and keepers in the trade of captive animals including reptiles is more than sustainable." They have no intention of abolishment. Good news for us!

Mind you this is not a plug for the labor party.

LOL Labour would have to give something to them to get they preference vote.
I am sure they are happy make deal anytime.
