Hey guys just want to know what wattage heat globe is good to put in a 600x400x400 wooden enclosure to keep it around 33C around the warm end where it will be put in (with a wire cage protecting from burns obviously) I want to put it in from the left side where the ledge is so he has a basking place where he can just stretch out to get the heat. It's for a 2 month old bredli if that makes a difference. And yes I would take the fake plantation away from where i put the globe in :p

Thanks in advance :D

40 watt if you can get them.

75 will cook them.

Really  I thought that'd be to hot lol thanks for the reply

lol sorry it would be 60w i think thats the lowest but i have seen some 40w ones also it is good to use a dimming thermostat to prolong the life of the bublb and make sure you have an accurate temp hope that helps,
lol sorry in cm's your tank is 60x40x40? lol not good with measurements

Yeah 60cm long x 40cm wide x 40cm high. Thanks everyone. So 60w is okay but preferably 40w if possible on a dimming thermostat? Where do i buy a dimming thermostat and how much do they cost? I'm happy to pay the price whatever it is just want to get an estimate :p

You sure 70w isn't to hot to be in the actual enclosure because i don't want to roast my baby. And yeah I've been looking at those heat emitters. :) thanks for your reply

dimming thermostats range from 60 upwards...ebay is alot cheaper though! ;)

Thanks Guys ;) So guys what do i use 70w, 60w, or 40w ? I don't know the heat of these. I've i only ever owned 150w and it's sooooooooooooooooooooo friggen hot man lol (and no i don't put it in their enclosure i hang it above so the heat isn't so strong.

I think 70 watts is way too high for what is essentially a 2 foot enclosure.
I can heat 3x2x2's with a 60 watt reflector and that is double the space

I'm by no means an expert on snake enclosure sizes and the like but would a 60 x 40 x 40 be considered a tad small and not allow enough room for a proper thermal gradient???

I would be using a heat mat or cord with thermostat for heating & use your light fitting with timer for a basking light. I like to be warm too, but would rather be on an 'electric blanket' than sleeping under a high heat radiant source of heat. Just my opinion ;)

If you must use a heat lamp, use the smallest you can get.... 60 max for sure. Try putting your hand 40cm under a 75w heatlamp, see how long you like it for  Go heatpad/cord....

If i were to get a heat light/emitter it would/will be 40w and i just don't understand where to put the heat mat/cord i put a 7w heat mat under that ledge and the ledge didn't warm up like first planned but if i put it under the substrate where does the airflow come from? And I've never come across a heat cord in my life lol the only time i've ever heard or seen of one was on this site not at the any of the 5 petshops that were around here all of which sell reptile equipment lol and honestly i prefer a heat globe/emitter for heating when it comes to wooden enclosures.

You put the heatpad at warm end (no more than 1/3rd of floor area) preferably under the hide, and the probe just above it. I am in qld too, we are lucky the temps never get really low, so you could prolly get away with a small 20w (cheap to run) heatpad. You can place the heatpad between 2 sheets of glass (or tiles) with the edges taped like a sandwich then the paper over & hide on top of that at the warm end. The heat will rise into the hide and then the hide will also radiate heat. All just my opinion ;)

Fantastic looking enclosure by the way..... cant see any vents tho?

No I've just got a chicken wire top. Small square so he can't squeeze through them and because my window is above it, it allows airflow. Thanks for your input btw :)
