Is anyone else going through alot of bulbs at the moment
I tried 2 different brands & watts still not helping
i got three different enclosures and sizes, i have changed nothing in there enclosures
i tried exo terra [crap] only lasted a month reptile one lasted a little longer
what other brands can i try. should i try just a heat bulb ?

any ideas would be good

i'll try them out i think i saw them at the pet shop around $60 thats cheap than $20+ x 3 every month

You can try online auction sites....... will cost you 1/3 of the pet store price

We have been using Reptile One ceramic & they are great so far. There is one particular store that I get them from that is about $20 cheaper than everywhere else, they sell online also.

ebay my second favorite web site after aussie pythons. You can always find a bargin but if i need something in a hurry i go to the petshops

do the ceramic ones glow. good if they don't cause at night it looks like i'm running a hydro set up or a brothel
i'm just wait to see if someone comes knock on my door [cops & or some drunk from the pub] haha

I had the same issue for a while.
I have just bought some infrared globes from HerpShop & they're going great so far ... they have done testing on theirs and from what it says on their site, their bulbs are averaging 100 days a bulb.
Maybe have a look into them..?

For what its worth - whatever bulbs you are using, try not touching them at all with your bare hands, use a cloth.

It made a huge difference to ours when we started doing this.

Check your thermostat compatibility and globe fitting if it will take a ceramic, also the max watt it will take.Get the black one, they don't glow.I looked at them today, just browsing, about $40 for 100 watt,$45 for 150watt.I have had mine on ceramics for about 3 years now.

Ceramics don't give off any light & yeh don't handle them, use a cloth.

What wattage are you after?

yer it could be the issue with not touching with bare hands cause some lights should not be handle by hands like car head lights
that would be the cause now that i think about it but i'm going try ceramic's so my unit does not glow at night

Is your thermostat is plugged straight into the wall, and not a powerboard? I blew a UVB light because it was plugged into a board, it got overloaded.

Ceramics, all day long, i have black nights that have been running 2 years.

i use surge protect power boards so my unit does burn down

I have surge protected powerboards, too. I still blew a UVB light. I'd give it a go plugging the thermostat straight into the wall, what have you got to lose?

well my woolies globe has been running everyday since January for between 8-12hrs a day and its not blown

what kind of thermo you using?

i use exo terra 50W reds on dimming thermo's, run them 24/7 until i start the breeding process and start switching them off at night. all my bulbs run 12 months minimum with only blowing a bulb occasionally when i start switching them off.

i run 10 setups like this and most bulbs are around 18-24 months old. i use the plastic light fittings and change wiring every 12 months. been doing this for nearly 5 years with no issues and have not seen the light fittings degrade or come brittle.

perhaps you need to check your wiring at the light fittings. think i have heard something along the lines of certain areas also get a high amount of surge in their power supply, could be an issue?

also when touching the bulbs make sure to cover your hands with some material. as grease and fat comes off your skin and cooks on the bulb leading to short life for the light, it will overheat and break
