hey guys, i have a i think 6 month old spotted python who since i have gotten him has never let me down on a feed but last week he refused i thought it may have been just to soon as i feed bettwen every 4-6 days so i left him for a few more days.

i just tryed again and again he refused now like i said he has never ever failed to eat BUT i am thinking he may be hybernation as i keep finding him in the cold end of his tank that he shares with the female spotted, now i know they dont fight cuz i have seen him up there in the hot end with her but he spends most of his time in the cold end now i know when they hybernate they dont eat ( some dont) can somee plz confirm that he is more then likly in hybernation as he is my 8 year old step daughters and she allready cryed cuz he wont eat for a second time so would like to get him to vet now if it may be something else.

thanx all
john and danielle

they dont hybernate. but he is probably burmating, but its hard to be sure with a young snake. what temperatures are you keeping him at?

Is your spotty due for a shed dont worry a 6 month old would not be in burmation reason being hatcies need to keep eating to grow your snake can go many months without eating without any harm I know it can be frustrating just exsplain to your daughter nothings going to happen to her pet if it stops eating for a week or so

Firstly I'd separate them into their own enclosures if possible.

Might be stressing, try him in his own click-clack,I am only feeding my young macs every 7 days, might be on a self-imposed diet. But too young to brumate, but not good spending all his time in the colder end, this will put him of his food.

hey guys yea i was not sure if they hybernated but brumtion is sorta the same thing isnt it ill have to look that one up.

wranga temps are 30 degree through day and i turn light off at night and mat stays on cold end i dont really keep temp on it due to its a 5 ft wooden tank so it sorta cools down half way and then keeps cooling till the end but he is allways right at the end

pythruiz as far as i can tell he is not due had a shed mmm about 3 weeks ago shed sheet is in another room amungst paper everywere lol but it was about 3 weeks ago and i know they can not eat for weeks even months its just a lil worrying even for me when he just stops randomly thats why im asking

smithers i was thinking of that due to it being a 5 ft tank i was thinking of making it 2 tanks and putting a devider in the middle

deadpan thanx for replying to this ;) as i just said ill be deviding the tank into 2 thanx

Needs to be seperate and in a small lunch box sozed container while at that age for better feeding outcomes, If you'd like to see a setup check out Sheldons folder in my albums :)

Its a husbandry problem!
Hatchie/juveniles need heat 24 hours a day, any drop in a regular temp will cause them to stop eating.

Secondly that enclosure is way to large for such a small/young snake and will more than likely be causing major stress again stopping it feeding.

Place the snake into a small tub with constant heat (32dg ) at the hot end, leave it be with no handling AT ALL and offer a feed in a weeks time!

If it refuses try again in another week and so on. But above all NO handling untill it has an established feed record in your care.

very big tank for small snakes. i would leave heat on 24/7. nights have been very cold lately. my snake room has been getting down to 10/12c

hey beeman thanx for that ill pull them both out of there i did think it may be slightly large but having 2 in there plus he is a rather large hatchie i figured it wouldnt be a problem and there did not seem to be untill now so possible just took a while to piss him off lol i just put my woma into his new home and have a free tank so ill place him in there and try to feed him in a week and hopefully he will go back on track ill have to see how we go thanx all

well its like one of those lil mice cage things when i first bought my very first snake i was told they were good i keep all my hatchis in them
