How do you defrost food items?
How do you offer food items?
What food item and size do you offer?
What time do you offer them?
What is he kept in?
How old is he?
How many hides does he have?
What heat is he kept at?
Oops, knew I forgot something!
Ok so he (not sure what gender he is really, local reptile shop said he's too small to be sexed and I just started calling him a he) is about 8-9 months old, got him in July from Snakester here on the forum. I chose him as he was very placid and easy to handle and still is, just isn't feeding well for me.
He's fed one naturally thawed (left in a seperate sealed tub overnight in the fridge then left on the bench for afew hours then warmed up lightly on a heat mat, I don't microwave thaw at all, the other two Carpets are fine with their food like this) fuzzie or hopper mouse, one item once a week on Sunday nights. He gets fed mice just like the breeders did, fuzzies and occaisionally a hopper.
Half his tub is on a 14w heat mat which keeps it on about 30 deg. and has a box and tube hide with a branch, fresh water changed twice a week and he gets taken outside later in the week regularly for sunning. ALl 3 of my Carpets gets handled later in the day either on Friday or Saturday for alittle then left alone till Sunday, fed then left alone again till I need to change their water or handle then later in the week.
I've tried to keep to a schedule for the snakes sake due to being told how habitual they are and like routines, makes them feel safe and calm> I know with only being new to snake ownership, I am open to accepting the fact I would be making mistakes too, but I'm doing the best I can I suppose and there could always be room for improvement.
I guess I could put him in a proper tub, but he seems to like the small space. I tried in him in soemthing adequate once he didn't like it. The Tub is about 35cm by 20cm and 10-15cm high. It has holes for ventilation and I cover up everything but the ventilation due to how shy he is.
When I first got him he was a little fussy too, wouldnt touch pinkies at all so he has been on furred mice ever since. I think he may also be readjusting becasue my partner fed him for 3 weeks while I was overseas and I have recently cleaned out and changed his bedding. The other two knew I was back straight away and settled to me feeding them again, but he hasn't.
My Centralian and Coastal was fine with their new bedding and I'm wondering about this little fella now. He isn't doing anything else other than not taking his food, but then he has always been a difficult feeder for me.
Any advice would be great, though I won't be able to apply it till I see them next as my partner keeps them on his licence at his house.
