Hey I was wondering you could all post any advice on GTP and where is a good place to buy from. Please :?

Hi Sharn,

first, ask yourself what kind of GTP do you want and what you planning to do with it:
Will any GTP do as long as the price is alright?
Do you want to eventually breed them (you will need a pair. LOL)?
If so ,
pure line, designer morphs, anything as long as it's green?
Do you have a budget?
Do you have a suitable set up and food supply organised before buying the snake?
Are you experienced enough to care for this tropical specialist species?
Do you know anyone( experienced) you can call for help or advice if things go pear shape?

Think it over well before you go out to buy one or two.

I think FNQ was mentioned because Sharn's location is : FNQ.

My advice is buy a plastic moulded one and sit it on a perch.... will be just as active, though cheaper to feed.

chondrogreen i'll happily swap you a coastal for a gtp if you would like something more uncommon.

The most important thing with buying any higher end reptiles is to buy from a reputable breeder,You can pick cheap ones up,BUT your better off spending that little bit extra to get from someone decent.Another thing is to ask as many questions as you like,as your the one buying, most decent breeders wont have any troubles answering any questions you ask...Best of luck with your decision...

Wow thanks for the replys. Not not my first i have two other snakes, but the GTP is what i have always wanted. I'm happy to spend the money to get a good one, and i love the idea of breeding them. Why are the GTPs so hard to keep????

Hard to keep, well that depends on the line, some are prone to prolaps, some are poor eaters ect... Very generally speaking, reptiles with small isolated distributions, esp ones that are rain forest specialist, have special needs in reguards to heating and / or humidity, fail to give them these needs and they don't thrive, work it out and you will have no problems. Some people find it hard to grasp the concept of a rain forest, and what a micro climate it provides for it's inhabitants.

Sharn, being in FNQ you shouldn't have too many problem providing the right conditions. Living in the tropics makes keeping tropical rainforest species much easier. Where about are you (if I can ask)?

I'm not far from cairns, so we get the high humidity and all that. I should be able to ask the breeder about how the snake has been eating and all yeah.
