Ok before I explain, here in SA we can keep one native reptile per household without a permit, and its all legal.

A few months ago a juvi darwin came into my possession by one of my friends who bought it as the one he is legally allowed to have, but no longer wanted it because it is very snappy and bitey. He basically said to me I can have it because if i didn't take it he was going to let it go! Obviously i took it and now have this snake with me that is not on my licence.
Wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and how they went about it with Parks and Wildlife and if there is any threat of the animal being taken from me.
Thanks for your time.

why not ring parks and wildlife, they would be the ones to ask?? Good luck, hope all goes well, they'll probably tell you what to put on a permit if one is needed

Would finding out where he bought it from and getting their license number work?
Perhaps you could use that for your records. The person you got it from can't legally dispose of it, can he?

As i said in SA we can have one reptile without a permit, and this was his choice of reptile, so he has no permit and it was all legal.
What was not legal was me taking it from him since i have a license and he does not have the appropriate license to sell it or even give it away.
Dip- I just wanted to make sure they would not frown upon me for something like this, i didnt want to speak to anyone there and give them all my details if they turned around and said they had to confiscate it or whatever.
Ill ring them monday morning and explain everything.

Best to call them. If you can keep one without a permit, there must be something in place for purchasing a pet from an unlicensed keeper.

Yeah the deal is if they get a reptile without a permit and then decide to sell it, they have to purchase a basic buy/sell/keep permit.
I will just call them on monday and clarify everything.
