hi all,
if anyone is interested in doing advanced reptile course there is one being ran at richmond tafe in march!!! It goes for 5 weeks and is on wed nights from 6-9pm and also includes field trips to reptile park. The course is $755
you must have previous experience in animal husbandry or keeping reptiles to enter this course, if you dont there is a pre requisit course on tbeing held for 3 days on feb 26th,27th,28th (thur fri sat)it is $255
the course can only run if we have enough people to do it!!!!!

so if anyone wants to do it please let me know asap, we all have to pay our fees at least 2 weeks before the course starts, cause the week before they decide if they have enough people to run it!!!!! only people who have paid are counted and the cut off date is23/2/09!!!!!!! can pay via cheqe credit card no cash payments taken
the course is advanced reptile care at richmond tafe and covers all snakes and reptile care and also get to have classes with venemous snakes!!!
YOU MUST BE OVER 18 TO DO IT THOUGH!!!!

please let me know asap as it wont be held if we cant get enough people!!!!

kaira pilt

OMFG if only i was 18.. :( I just live in Kurrajong.. So not far at all.

Seriously, $755 for an experienced keeper & $1010 for a newby?
Do you get a Woma or anything upon completion?:lol::lol:

oO(why would an experienced keeper pay $755 to hear what they already know anyway?)

Just out of interest, who will be running the course?
Am sure before anyone hands over that kind of $$ they will want to know the experience of the teacher.

oO(Think I would rather join wires pay $110 for training and learn basic husbandry as well as catching Elapids)

why do tight .....,censored..... always have to put a post up saying they think it is too expensive?

And to answer your question, because it is too expensive. Why would some1 want to pay 3 times as much as another place???

there is also an advanced reptile course being held at the brisbane institute of tafe...
i do believe its only like $200 though, and deals with vens as well as some other things as well... i will see if i can find the course info if anyone is interested.

More course info

Hey i dont make the prices, if you are on any centerlink payments you get up to 90% exemption as its tafe!

If u want more info go to the tafe website the course no is: 27315

i also have the applications to apply for the pre req and the advanced,

you can do the course if u are under 18 but canot participate in the venemous snake handeling in 2 classes, :( sorry but u can still do the course!!!

If yo are serious about starting a carer in reptiles/snkes this is the ideal course, if u wanna just do it for fun just do the 3 day pre rewuisit for 255, i know its expensive but if ur like me and want a career with snakes it really doesnt matter wat the cost is as you get a degree!

The outcome of the course is a advanced certificate/degree in reptile care/husbandry and it will basicsly allow to start working with them for a job!!!
It covers:

*taxonomy
*non-ven snake & reptile, turtles, lizzards care/ husbandry, handeling housing and restraint techniques
*clinical signs for reptile health
*liscense and record keeping
*snake bite and first aid tretments
*venom and venom delivery systems
*elapid species identification
*elapid husbandry/ housing restraint techniques
*field work: Trapping, handeling biometry and release.
And a field trip to repitle park

starts 2nd march!!!

Please dont attack me im just trying to get more peole into the course so it wil be held as i wanna a career in reptile work!!!

Pm if u want the application form or info

You can do the course if ur under 18 but just cant do the venemous snake part which is one lesson i think u just have to sit aside :( i know it sucks but i spose its for legal reasons, so u can still do it!!!!!

please can only people who are serious about starting a career or serious about learning reply, please dont bother telling how expensive u think it is or any of ur negative comments, i just wanna find more peeps for the course!
thanks

You might just like to clarify what qualifications you get when you finish the course. As far as I am aware you can't get a degree by doing a couple of weeks' evening course at TAFE. I think it is probably a certificate rather than a degree...

I don't believe any TAFE has a degree course, it must be a certificate! Can you let us know what level of Certificate it is (ie: I, II, III, IV) and if there are any job placements available on completion.

Cheers,

I.V.

...what sort of jobs would be looking for this qualification? May be helpful information for those undecided...

...also, any information on who will be running the course?
