heapmeasure demo..

take pic from above with snake flat on the floor..
something in the shot that you can measure so you know the objects size..

i used a tape measure this time. it's just to calibrate the software..
use the software to plot points along the centre of the snake and it calculates the length for you... very acurate and alot easier then string or whatever..
snake can be in any position, doesn't need to be straight..

ps, not my software. writen by Swaddo.he's the genious

Yep, used this last week to work out the length of my yearling Bredlis, very easy to use.

sorry guys, I'd update the link in my sig however it appears that this is no longer possible.

Here are some screenshots of it in operation. As you can see the snake can be in any position, as long as the shot is perpendicular to the surface it is lying on (i.e. taken from directly above). Any other angle and it will introduce an error into the measurement. It can also be used as a lie detector when your mates send you pics of theit BIG fish :)

If anyone wants a copy PM me and I'll hook you up with a download link for the installer. Sorry no Mac or Linux version released yet ... but there is one in the works. I have a zip file available if linux/mac want to have a play with running it using mono (file load/save is broken but measurements worked last time I tried)

This is 100% free software, no strings attached. Not trying to advertise any business. Hopefully the admins/mods will agree.

Cheers
Blake

Note: I should add this is an enhanced version of the snakemeasurer software that has been round for years. added quite a bit of functionality that it lacked and that i thought it should have had (like zoom, moving points, exporting to multiple image formates and loading/saving so things can be edited later)

I use this every 6 months or so, along with weight measurements, then chuck em up on FB to keep track how everyone's growin. Great software, very easy to use! Cheers!

Hi Swaddo,
When I ran it last week, I noticed the measurement text (top left) was really small on an average 1MP image zoomed out. Is the only way around this to reduce the size of my file before opening in HerpMeasure, or can that text be edited to a larger size by the user?
Cheers,
Tonksy

yep, go into the options and change the font :)

haha, too easy, cheers thanks for that.
I must have missed that function when I was checking it out in my eagerness to see how long my snakes are haha.

great program...I wonder if it will still measure if the snake is 100% coiled up..will have to try that one. should do in theory. well done.

it will yea, just need to plot points close together so as not to cut corners.

So long as the snake is laying flat & you can see it's length it shouldn't be a problem, so long as you have it's length to plot points along.

pleasure Fay :)

It works it best when the pic is taken from directly over head too. If the pic is taken at an angle (like the tuna pic i posted) then the length will be an underestimate.

Sorry for digging up an old thread. Just wondering after you calibrate the object in the picture, and plot the points on the snake, what do you do to get the program to tell you how long the snake is?
