Hey guys I was thinking of getting my girlfriend a snake for her birthday and she's never owned a snake before either, so just a quick question what would be an ideal snake for her? (price doesn't matter)

Get something you like, so if she doesn't like it, it's yours lol!

Has she shown any interest in snakes?

be sure she would like one hehehe.
Get her something small to start off with mate. Stimmie are a good choice

Buying a snake for your girlfriends birthday huh? My grandpa once bought a table saw for my grandmothers birthday lol.

Lucky girl!!!

Price doesn't matter... *sigh* I'll have a pair of Green Tree Pythons and a reptifogger please...

Maybe a picture of a snake and a cheque so if she doesn't want it she can bin the picture and buy something she really wants=One less unwanted novelty snake.

My boyfriend brought me my first snake for my birthday :) best present i've every gotten! Although he did ask me first. Since I still live at home (and my mom is terrified of snakes) he needed to make sure that everything would be fine with my parents and other details like that. After that he left it a complete surprise for me right up to my birthday (he had my girl in hiding at his house for almost a month before i saw her! soo frustrating haha, but well worth the wait.) He got me a stimson's python, which is a great first snake. She is so placid and I think she is gorgeous! It's been amazing watching her grow and taking care of her by myself. So, my advice to you would be to first make sure that IS what something she wants and will commit to especially if you don’t live together.

I wouldn't go for a big snake as a first snake, start small. I'd highly recommend a stimsons python or any snake from the antaresia family (although in my opinion the stimsons are the prettiest.) They get to just under a meter and although price isn't an issue, they are reasonably cheap from my experience in my area (S.A.) although this could differ. Since I don't have much experience with actually owning snakes, I can't really recommend many others but my boyfriend has bredili's and a darwin python, and they are lovely in my opinion. Great colours available and very placid (although this could obviously vary) If price reaaalyyy isn't an issue, i'd go for an albino darwin. Gorgeous snakes with unique colours, and not particularly hard to keep as far as I know from friends that own them. I'll stop with my recommendations though since I don't have the own personal experience to back it up :p hope that gave you some ideas though. You’ll also need to decide whether it would be best to get a hatchling, yearling or adult snake. Personally, I’ve loved having a hatchling as I like watching her grow. But at the same time, they are very small as hatchlings so some people prefer to start with an adult :)

When you do get it, I’d recommend letting it settle in for at least a couple of weeks before you show/give it to your girlfriend. That way she can see it while it is calm and settled in, making handling and feeding easier for her.

So yeah, I hope my essay of a comment helps you! Just a couple of pics of my gorgeous girl to show you how lovely stimson's can be. As you can see she is still pretty small as she is only just 8 months old now, but she has grown heaps in the 4 months that i have had her :)

haha sounds like what my parents where like , mum kept buying my dad trips to bali for his birthday , so he bought her a bulldozer on her 50th :lol::)

You could get her a Woma or Albino Darwin, both would be good choices due to temperament and both are beautiful snakes. But this only my opinion..

Make sure she definately wants one first :)
Id suggest a Childrens, spotted or stimsons.

STIMMIES ALL THE WAY ice never met a nice spotted

Cathy

even from my little experience i can verify this haha. A good friend of mine brought a spotted hatchling when i got my stimmi and he is still a nasty little guy even though my mate handles him often :p

far out your parents must be loaded

Cathy
na not really , bali is cheaper to holiday in then Australia:) been going there since i was a kid , the bulldozer was something my dad always wanted so he just splashed out plus he needed it

I second that pets are not good presents... UNLESS you know she wants one, or has specifically asked for one, or worst case scenario you are willing to take it on for the rest of it's life.

childrens, spotted or stimsons, i own a hatchling spotted and he is a very friendly, placid snake. i was bitten my my childrens but have not been bitten by my spotted python yet.

How about you take her to pick out a snake. I wouldent like others to chose my animals. We all have diffrent tastes.
