My male coastal is extremely friendly and he prefers to be out chilling with us than in his enclosure an i would like to know how long i should let him be out before i put him back into his enclosure in the warmer environment? He is really hard to get back in as he continually ties himself around your arms, but once he is in there he is fine and unstressed about it. The room temp is constantly warm enough to be wearing a t-shirt but im still not sure

Id just leave his door open a crack.:).if he wants in he will go.;)..apart from that if he feels to cold etc..put him back obv..i have a jungle the same, she just doesnt wanna go home lol:rolleyes:im like..go home your cold! lol.. but in general ill handle em an hour or 2 each a day at least..;)

Sounds like an awesome friend..:).,id just let him do wotever he wants by the sound of it:D lol as we all know..they are pretty clever.;)

They amaze me me constantly they are that clever ;) now i just gotta work on my female, i'm just about to change her name to tag! but i will admit she is no where near as bad as she was when i first got her, i dont think she has been handled much at all... cheers for the help schizmz

i sometimes have a snake out for an entire day
sun up to sundown
, a little cold won't worrw them

yer i "rescued" imo a jungle that spent over a year in a fishtank with no hideys or branches and i was told "na we dont go near it..it bites"...sigh."wonder why". so $400 and 3 weeks later she is alot better than she was..i called her chainsaw..cos in the right hands they are fine.. but if you dunno what your doing..it will cut you to ribbons;) i think she will come around eventually..just so timid naturally the way she was treated.so she's highly defensive..:D
I bet you can spot which is which..

That would have been a good name for mine! She was "fine" in the hands of the breeder, bit jumpy but not snappy, but once she came to me, my inexperience showed through and she tagged me (no blood, no pics, sorry) multiple times, so i'm just goin to have to keep handling her, get both of our confidence up. Ideally i'd love to be able to get her to settle to the point of my male, although i do like the fact that if the mrs has friends around an i wanna get rid of em i just tell em the B***h has escaped and they all run for their cars!

your coastals personality sounds exactly like my yearling olives... An absolute pussycat ! Whenever I have him out, its straight to sleep on my shoulder, though i'm not sure whether its friendliness or laziness ? haha. As for your situation, i'd imagine it wouldn't do him any harm as long as the room is snug and he doesn't seem irritated by being out so long, and by the sounds of it he doesn't... I reckon my olive would hang around all day if I let him :)

Cheers,

Blake

They certainly can sense fear, or more uncertainty. My MD girl is only 9 weeks old and very similar, LOVES to be out, wraps around me so tight when i even walk into her room. She is completely fine with me but when my mum holds her (she doesnt wanna be one of "THOSE" mums), my girl tenses up, doesnt strike, but just doesnt look settled and is looking for me the whole time. Love that part tho i must say!!

Seriously tho, arent they just the best pets!!

Same with my girl!! Her fave spot when she is out is on top of my laptop screen. Great company while I am doing assignments or preparing for school the next day!

that sounds alot like what happened to me with my diamonds...
the girl i got them off had them in a tiny fish tank, with nothing but an uncovered desk lamp

My smaller Olive just spent an hour in my jumper snoozing whilst I did some English homework hah! He is an absolute gem...Wish I could say the same for the big fella

 im sorry but i can just imagine python poop running down that screen sooner or later :p

Totally agree there Asharee i'm trying to get mine to learn to hide under the heat sink on my lappy, at least that way its not quite so bad, but his fav place is wrapped around my neck givin me a squeeze if i ignore him for to long. He as bad as a dog if i dont give him enough attention he starts "nuzzling" into my ear or hand to get me to play with him!

new to the game!

Hey all,
Just wondering if someone can give me some tips on handling my snake...i think she's a carpet python but not 100% sure...not sure of her age either but she is just over 1m long, gorgeous colours! (i'll try to get a pic up soon). She's very threatened by the slightest thing and gets into the S position very quickly when i open her tank up. What will be the best way for me to start handling her? I just dont know what to do if she bites and constricts around my arm.

reach in grab it, dont flinch when ya get tagged, dont hurt that much and just teach it that you not goin to hurt it... just be gentle, keep it from around your neck an it dont hurt when they cuddle ya.... i'm only a newby myself, gotta get the first bite out of the way!
