Just a quick one, i am going to feed my carpet hatchie soon, and i have been feeding him on pinkie mice and i think they might be a little small so i want to try feed the last 2 i have in the freezer before stepping up in size, and my question is how do i feed the 2 of them? do i wait till he is totally finished the fist one, or follow the tail of the first with the head of the second? have never had to do this with any of my snakes so i got no idea....cheers

i usually wait til its completely finished swallowing. the only time i ever follow the tail is if im weaning it onto rats or its a trouble feeder so i take the opportunity to get as many into it as possible.
Hope that helps

Just wait till he eats the first one and then offer the second...doesn't have to be completely swallowed.

Oh and a carpet hatchy is capable of eating larger than a pinkie mouse.

Yeah i been reading about how big to feed them and i'm just using up the rest of the pinkie mice i have (last 2 tonight) and then i am going to move it up to pinky rats, this is my first hatchie and i am feeding the same as what the breeder was.

You could try feeding as per normal, come back 10 mins later and offer the second. Should be ample time to have swallowed. I bet it takes the second. As for the upsize, personally I would put it on to 15 gram fuzzy rats if your going to feed 2 pinkies mice.

they are only small (3-4g) pinkie mice thats why i was going to go to the pinky rats for a few weeks and then step up again...but will take your advice, get a couple of each (pinkie and fuzzy rats) and see how he goes

i reckon you should save at least one pinky mice before you feed it rats. so then when you're ready to feed it rats, feed the mice first then rat straight after. just in case if your hatchy is not taking rats. trick it by putting in the mice first then rat second. so you wouldnt have to buy another pack of mice. just my suggestion.

dont have to buy em by the pack.... get em for 50c each so not a big problem if i need to get 1 or 2 more ;)

if that's the case then yeah feed him/her both. =) i reckon fuzzy rats btw.

cheers thanks for that people, but i hit a snag, got the mice ready first so i didnt annoy him, opened the click clack, and the bugger looks like he is going to shed and he refused the feed....oh well should be extra hungry next week for the rat, but its still good to know for the future

oh that's okay. he probably is coming up to a shed. last time my spotted refused, i increased the heat a little and tried an hour later it took the rat. but just leave it imo.

yeah he does look like it, it's only 9 weeks old and hasnt had a shed as far as my records show. i have only had him 2 weeks and this was to be his second feed with me, am guessing the breeder was under feeding it a little, but i'll increase the feed size and see how it goes. Still looks healthy and is growing/feeding fine imo, has been fed 8 times already.
