How to find breeders locally (or nearby)

Hello!

I don't own a snake yet, I'm hoping to get my first one in the coming months provided I can find a reputable breeder. The issue with this is that I haven't the slightest clue how to find a breeder. Is there some sort of method to finding them? Am I just not searching the right things?
I would also appreciate vet recommendations if anyone has any! I know there are a few animal hospitals around me, but I don't know how well they do reptiles lol

I live in the Albury-Wodonga area (NSW side) if this helps at all ^^

Should probably add that by locally I mean within a reasonable distance, y'know? I'm not sure what's a reasonable time to transport a snake in a car, but I don't think driving back 6 hours from Sydney is the play lol

You'll probably struggle to find much locally, though you may get lucky.

Melbourne is likely going to be your best bet (get in touch if you'd like Antaresia from Melbourne), but travelling six hours in a car is no problem for a snake as long as you keep the temperatures comfortable, so if you sometimes travel to Sydney, it's certainly an option to get something from there.

There is a really good Antaresia breeder near Wollongong. Don't know if you want to drive that far, but I highly recommend her

Honestly I’ve only ever been to Sydney once, and I live way closer to Melbourne lol (3 and a half hour drive instead of 6).
My initial thought was Sydney as it’s on the NSW side of the border, where I live. To buy from VIC I’d need a permit or something along those lines, wouldn’t I?
Could definitely still be worth it though, I’d head to Melb for a snake if you know breeders there!

Yes, you'll need what NSW calls an 'import license' which you can get online in one minute for a cost of $20, which is considerably quicker and cheaper than three hours of driving!

I've had some luck finding breeders in SA through Reptile Classifieds. Might be worth a look.

Are there any Green/Common Tree Snake Breeders on here? Been looking for some for a while.

Few people have had long term success with them. A few people do breed them from time to time but they're not often available and most are wild caught. They're not exactly the most difficult things to keep or breed, the main issue is feeding. I haven't kept any for about 15 years, I used to use Asian House Geckoes as a feed source, ideally you'd use frogs but most herpers aren't particularly keen to see frogs get eaten, and they're not the most convenient things to use. Live fish are the most commonly used feed source, but they're not especially convenient, and nutritionally not perfect. I personally wouldn't be keen to keep them again unless I had a convenient source of frogs or lizards, of types I didn't mind using as feeders.

Unfortunately Australia doesn't have any colubrids well suited to keeping, but if you're willing to put in the effort, Dendrelaphis are fantastic snakes.

Yeah the problem i'm finding is the distinct lack of sourcing the GTS. There doesn't seem to be any being bred at all.
