i had my female coastal at the vet today and she got a vitamin b shot. I was told it time to force feed her but i really dont want to. I hate holding her and seeing her stress and struggle like that. But if i have to i have to i guess. So please help and let me know your experiences with vitamin b shots. DO THEY WORK?

anytime I have had a snake not eat or be a difficult feeder I have literally started again with pinkie rats or mice...and gradually upped the food size to where they should be.

it has always worked for me and I have had two go off their food and got them eating again using this method

Hey Pharskie! :)

A Vit B shot to an unwell reptile is like a can of Spinach to Popeye! It's a 'gentle' way to get things going, and is often the first choice from vets with animals who aren't eating...

Fantazmic has offered you a good suggestion - lessen the food size with your snake, make the prey item a "little" warm (not too warm, or you'll have its innards everywhere when your snake squishes it!), perhaps even defrost the prey item in warm water, as the water tends to be a "lubricant", for want of a better word! Gently open the snake's mouth, pop the prey item in it's mouth, over the epiglotis (that should poke out the front a bit), and let the snake close it's mouth. If necessary, massage the prey item (when the snake has started to get it down) further down... If the snake looks like it's doing it by itself, let her do it, just sit back and watch. Pop her back in her enclosure and monitor her. (I hope the vet told you to up her temps a fraction?)

Keep us posted on her progress?

Good luck!

Best,
Carolyn
