My 18 month old Bredli seems to be constantly hungry... he is quite happy eating a wiener mouse daily.... this seems a little excessive I would have thought.... at the moment I am unable to weigh him due to fact handling is near on impossible, he seems to think anything that moves is food... should I continue to let him eat at such a rate or should I cut back??

my god. keep feeding it that much if you want it to die! you need to weigh it asap. put on a welding glove, use a hook, do whatever it takes
then feed the snake 20% of its body weight every 7-10 days and it should be satisfied

eg. snake weighs 600grams, give a weaner that weighs 100-150grams

thanks, will do... is there any particular reason why he would be so keen on food that you know of? At the moment hes getting feed every third day but he constantly seems to be ready to eat whenever I go near his enclosure....

It's constantly hungry...offer it a medium sized rat once a week they need time to digest a meal

Would you be happy with a daily bag of popcorn when all you want is a roast dinner weekly ?

Feed it bigger food less often. one or two rats that are 1.5 times the width of the snakes middle section. At 18 months old you could cut back to feeding it fortnightly. Its more likely to suffer from over feeding than under feeding.

My partners 18 month old Bredli is about 160cm and he could still fit through a toilet roll tube.

He is fed a 120-130g Rat every 2-3 weeks and is in wonderful condition and growing really well. We probably feed our pythins less that many others, but they are pets and we are in no rush for them to grow, we go off their body condition and digestion to tell us when they should be fed :)

I suppose I look at it like, if I was to be fed tiny bits often I'd never get that "satisfied" feeling that the brain and body give you after a big Sunday roast.

If you're not sure what food size item to feed him, try and get a photograph of your boy next to a toilet roll so we can get an idea of it's size - will be a really good way to get a proper response to food size, if you're unable to weigh your python comfortably :)
