hey i have 2 jungles, wow $150 is super super cheap for a jungle!! i think the younger the better i got my male at about 1yr he is placid as pie i got him because of he was so quiet (and cute!) and the others were bitters! my female i got at 2yrs this time i went for colour and she is an absolute bitch you can handle her a little bit but i dont trust her. she has settled a little though.
if your on a budget check out 2nd hand tanks. its always good to shop around and window shop so you know whats around and compare prices.
i have mine in a 4ft tank tho will probably up size when they get bigger.

Thanks for that, much better. You should use the search function top right.
You will find loads of great info.

How to build enclosures for reptiles - custom snake cages - arboreal snake cages - snake keeping cage info - homemade reptile cages

i am sure there are better care sheets than this, but it`s a start. And there are plenty of Jungle breeders on this site that will be happy to help; don`t be afraid to ask. The only stupid question is one not asked, always better to be sure and have safe healthy animals than to not ask and risk things when starting out. All the best, you should be fine with the money you have (esp a very cheap price for the Jungle) for a setup, and get ready for the addiction! :)

this is a better one; even though its really an ad for reptileone lol!! And as Darlyn said, use the search, hundreds of threads/posts on Jungles on this site!!

if you havent had snakes before, jungles are deffinatley not the beginers snake! expecially if your only 13, you will get bitten once buy a adult and you wont ever wanna touch it again. look into getting you licence first and go for a more dosile snake that has simlar colours to the jungle.

I have a jungle, it was my first snake and for the moment is my only snake. At first it was extremely snappy but has calmed down quite a bit to the point that i cant remember the last time he bit me. Once you get over the fact that you're going to get bit you will be fine because guaranteed you will get bit eventually. I love my jungle and i can't say anything about other types because i haven't owned any but he was a fantastic snake for me to begin with. It taught me to appreciate him for what he is not a cuddly little puppy but a snake that will bite.
If you want a jungle get one but probably as a hatcling like you said you were so that you can learn your snake because they are all different and if it does bite the scare is worse then the damage.

95% of people you talk to will say jungles are snappy & dont calm down. the other 5% have been lucky and got good calm ones

I have a jungle and I brought him as a adult and I couldn't ask for a better snake but I got lucky with him. Jungles are very temperamental
And can be very snappy. I also have a female jungle and she is 2. And
She is a typical snappy jungle. I wouldn't recommend getting a jungle as a first snake you need to look more into there breed
Try looking at spotted pythons I got to of them they were my 2nd lot of snakes to get and they would be great first snakes. Best of luck :)

Ignore the ones who say not to get a jungle. If you like them, get one. Saves you buying something you don't like as much and deciding to sell it to somebody else later. Buy an established hatchy so you know it is feeding. You won't feel bites from a snake that age anyway and if you handle it once it is settled in they usually settle down with time. People who are wanting a pet that isn't going to bite them should probably not get a snake regardless of sub-species...

As for housing, initially you'll only need a click clack which is outlined in great detail in the DIY section under how to build a click clack or something along those lines. I'd definitely recommend you use a thermostat in whatever you decide to house it in.

Agree with Wookie, don't listen to the naysayers. Jungles are great, and if temperament is a priority then you just simply pick one that is calmer. For adults you will want something that is at least the size of 1200 high x 600 wide x 600 deep, young animals should be kept in something much smaller though as Wookie suggested. Click clacks are great specially for jungles, you can house them in appropriate sized plastic tubs till a year or more depending on how fast you grow them.

where are you living...if you are in Melbourne PM me and I will recommend some breeders for you...also I know a good enclosure builder who can build you something excellent for $600. Remember...you get what you pay for....so if the jungle is only $150 I smell a rat !!

You are only 13....youve got heaps of time.....why dont you wait a bit longer and save some more money so you can buy yourself something really nice from a reputable breeder

Cheap doesn't always mean bad though, it could just mean they are as vibrantly coloured or are surplus to needs etc. Both my jungles were what i'd consider cheap price wise, but both were from reliable sources, and never had a problem with them they are even calm for jungles.

$150 is pretty reasonable for a jungle now-days. It depends if you're looking for a designer snake or just a pet as to who you buy the snake from/how much you should pay. Make sure whoever you buy it off, ask for photos or if you can go and see the snake first so you know it is healthy. I got a nice jungle from one of the most successful jungle breeders in Australia for $250 and that was 18 odd months ago so odds are jungles similar to him are even cheaper now.

well i have a really high pain threshold and i dont really mind the bites, but i think i will stick with getting a jungle because im 14 in 4 months and ive handled a friends jungle it seemed pretty cool and calm :)

Thats the way. When i first got my jungle it would strike at anything that moved but just keep persisting and there are plenty of people on here that will help you out.

Jungles are very temperamental - She is a typical snappy jungle. I have to disagree slightly with you leasha91. Ive found that the urban myth that jungles are ALL snappy and agressive comes mainly from the smaller palmerston type jungles which are in the main (but not always) a bit feisty and defensive. all pythons are individuals and you will get calm and feisty ones.

some of the other jungle locality types and mixed locality/designer types can be very calm and relaxed but all pythons will bite under the right circumstances.

so my advice is if you want a jungle as a first python get one. but be aware that if you go for a smaller palmerston type it may be feisty and not like to be handled much. it will teach you a lot about handling and the use of a hook and if you dont want a jungle to handle regularly would be fine. however if your looking for a jungle that you can handle regulary thats mainly calm and docile natured I'd look to one of the other jungle types and ask a breeder to pick you out a hatchling or yearling that fits this requirement. Ive always found it better to look for what you want in a python such as temperament, colour, pattern, locality etc first and then look at prices rather than look at prices and then try to find a cheap one that fits the bill.

Pretty simple- go for a sub-adult or adult advertised as being a good handler. Theres usually only a few around, but you should find one on this site pretty easily.
