I'm blown away by the work of Leigh Whannel and James Wan, who offered up Saw. One of the best horror movies of recent memory, I walked out of the theatre with my jaw dragging far behind me. You guys know your horror films.

Kev,
The girl in it nearly came out of it with her jaw dragging behind her to, didn't she?

I agree, one of the best horror/thriller twist films I have seen in years.

Neil

I agree. The sad part is, due to the huge return it garnished in only it's first weekend, Lions Gate has offered them big money for a sequal shedualed for release next year on the coveted Oct.15 release date. I'm not infavour of a sequal as I don't think this film needs a sequal, nor do I think that anything can be added by making one, besides ofcourse, more money.

Oh well, I still bask in the greatness of this film. My pick for best movie of the year. But I'm a horror genre geek, so what do I know.

I can see that the film was left wide open for a sequel, but have to agree it doesn't need one.
That's not to say I won't be one of the first to see the sequel

Simon, this is a film that lives up to all the hype and then some.

Speaking of the low buget for this film, The Grudge, had a modest budget of 10mil. It took in 40mil (over here) in it's opening weekend, propting instant sequal. Again not necessary.

For anyone that hasen't seen it, or has, I recomment checking out the original Japanese version Ju-On. Much better. The Grudge is good, but nowhere near as effective as Ju-On.

Speaking of "The Grudge", that was one disappointing film IMO. Nowhere near as good as the other US remake of a Jap hit "The Ring". "The Village" was also another huge letdown.

I was a little disappointed with 'The Grudge', I bet most people only hit the box office as Buffy was staring in it!

Interesting. I hated The Ring, but have yet to see Ringu. The Village IMO was pure crap. But I have yet to see a Shamalon (or however you spell his name) film I liked. The Village was, exceptional crap though. My biggest dissapointment was Excorsist: The Beginning . It had potential. I'm interested to see the version of the film that Paul Schrader put together before the studio decided to can it infavour of the version that Renny Harlin put out. Very sad.

I did like the Grudge. But it didn't live up to the hype it got. It would be up there for one of my favourite films of the year though. What can I say, I was entertained. It's far from Dawn of The Dead though.

Dawn of the dead is excellent.
Shaun of the Dead is also excellent:)
The Japanese version of the Grudge is truely scary... i loved it.

SAW is on my list for next week if someone doesn't ruin it for in the mean time

I'm saying nothing about it, other than it's great. I would hate to ruin this film for anyone.

I was very skeptical and appauled when I first heard of the Dawn Of The Dead remake. The original is the definative zombie film and a true classic. The remake however, blew me away. I was very pleasantly surprised and delighted. With that many exploding heads in a movie, how can it be bad? The colour of love is truely corn syrup and red dye #5!

I must say I say Grudge last week and I thought it was rubbish, one of the worst films ive seen in a long time, and thats saying alot. But then again, I may have appreciated it more if I had seen the original.

I cant wait to see Saw. Ive only heard really good reviews.
Its nice to see that a brilliant movie can be made with a small budget.

The remake of dawn of the dead was brilliant! Does anyone else reckon the shooter on the adjacent roof top looks like Sdaji? :p

I found The Ring to be freaky but not at all scary. The Village was a real let down as I had an inkling of what the twist was.
I love movies where the twist completely blindsides me like Momento.

I saw "Hero" the other week, I didn't realise it was subtitled before hand but fortunately there isnt a hell of a lot of dialogue. Visually it was stunning and I am glad I saw it one the big screen.

Well I seen the movie Saw...... Just got back from the cinema.... I hadn't heard anything about it before I seen this post so decided to give it a shot....

I think it was absolutly brilliant..... it kept me on the edge of the seat the whole movie... I honestly thought I would fall asleep as I am feeling a little tired.... Although after watching it I was wide awake and still am.....

I had to walk home from the cinema (bout 30 min walk).... one of the scariest walks I have ever had.... Any noise and I was turning around.....

Also there is a house next door that has been abandoned for like ever..... Something like this could be happening in there and you wouldn't even know..... IT MAKES YOU WONDER !!!!

Thats my rating :)

Nice Greebs ;-)

Well I've just come back and I agree with everyone else...what a GREAT movie. Very intense story line. What's also interesting (and Kev you might not know this) but Leigh Whannell (the writer) is a D-grade at best comedian. Often appears in nothing roles, no good responses, etc. But man can he write a good thriller.

"You could cover yourself in peanut butter and have a fifteen hooker gang bang for all I care."

I loved that line. What was even funnier was he had this look on his face like he was thinking about it,"That's a good idea!".
