By now, you all should be aware of my new 1200wx1200hx450d cage holding the water pythons. However after the initial explore they havn't used the upper part possibly due to lack of cover.
I must have been right. I've placed a fake plant on the top branch and the smaller WP has been sitting on it for the last couple of hours.

something to remember.

That perspex looks fantastic Fuscus, you wouldnt know it wasnt glass less you knocked on it. do you find it holds the heat better? i have a large veiwing window like that myself, but glass, very hard to heat.

Yeah i thought Fuscus might have been a bit of a dude

Don't think perspex and glass differ much in insulation properties. If you look carefully you can see I still havn't completey removed the covering paper.

Oh, thought perspex might hold heat a little better, maybe my glass is too thin, looks about 4mill. top of the glass near the heat is warm bottom is cold.

i had a perspec enclosure once, but it always got statically charged somehow and it used to attract dust something severe!
u eva that that prob fus?

Perspex fronts on waters is a VERY good idea. I have a pair that love to strike when you walk past and the perspex gives alittle more than glass, so I think it will do less damage to the snake, ie. less broken teeth from hitting the perspex oppossed to hitting glass which is harder than perpex. The heat retaining properties are similar but perspex will heat up quicker, it will loose it's heat faster, whereas the glass takes longer to heat up but holds heat a little longer than perspex.

I really don't think that there is much of a difference between prespex and glass. Both have thier pros and cons.
With prespex you know it isn't going to shatter and you can use it as part of the structure (it helps support the frame that encloses it). I also don't like the two-peice sliding glass that is the most common frontage on enclosures.

Very true ole matey. But did you know they also use glass as a load bearer in tall buildings.................... go figure.... I don't like 2 peice sliding glass unless the snake is over 7 foot.

we get that problem in the lab with our balances, if you have water near or on top of the problem area it takes away the charge and no dust and no static.
Its worth a shot with your enclosure, i myself haven't tried with enclosures but give it a go

Fuscus, I wonder if using two layers of glass or perspex with a gap (air layer) in between would insulate better? My enclosure opens the other side anyway. :?
