those are two different spiders. the blue one is just a baby avicularia versicolor, the photo of the adult avicularia avicularia is the one with the "sock web" they both weave them like that. The blue spider is less than an inch in size. Once she is an adult she will have a red abdomen, a blue body and purple legs. It's hard to belive they get even more brightly colored than they are as babys. The green bottle blue is supposed to be very colorfull as an adult also but I've never seen one full grown so I guese I'll just wait to see what that one turns out like.

Wow, i love animals like that, one of my bearded dragons is a gold phased, and when she gets excited, her whole back turns bright gold/yellow, her tummy bright white, and her big puffed out beard the blackest most impressive thing you ever saw..... i love whatching these transformations.

 Welcome, your gallery looks great, I have three Underwoodisaurus Milii's they are also very impressive. I hope you get as much out of this site as the rest of us. Welcome aboard!

Hi Charlotte, welcome to the site :)

I try not to be jealous, but I really am envious of your A.versicolor and C.cyanopubescans which has really amazing colours. I hope they hold in maturity. I love Australian Tarantulas, but would love some of these, I have to say :).

Anyhow, enjoy your time here, it's good to see another female into spiders!

They are a new hobbie for me but I jumped in with both feet. Chris from krazy 8's invertebrates is the one who really got me hooked. His web page is www.krazy8sinvertebrates.com. He has some amazing animals and sells alot of captive bred. I know you can't purchase any but the photos are great.

Thanks for the link, Charlotte, been across their site before. I love Guy Tansley's and Rick C. West's sites for the photos of all the tarantulas available to you guys over there. So lucky! If you are anything like me, you'll find them as addictive as reptiles. Especially because you just have so much available over there.

I'd love to get them for the reason that some are fairly placid and handleable. The Australian ones use biting as their only defense, so unable to be handled safely.

Getting a T.blondi anytime soon? :D

So sad :( :( :( I'm very sorry to hear it. I have heard that can happen often with the exotic ones for some reason :(

I have been lucky that out of the hundreds I have had, that hasn't happened, but I know exactly where they come from and their natural environment is really easy to simulate, especially with the captive-bred spiderlings. I think ours are much more easy to keep from what i have read about the overseas ones.

Is always sad to have losses, people don't understand how you get upset about a spider dying. Not too long ago, I had a neighbour spray outside and it got through my vents, I lost 3 eggsacs and 2 of my large girls :( . My favourite S.crassipes got really sick from it as well, and I spent many sleepless nights with her in the 'ICU' hoping she'd pull through, which she did :D

I hope you dont' have anymore moulting troubles, but I guess in a way, it puts you off going for that species again.

Charlotte, i just looked at your album, your emerald boa gorgeous !!! I like the blood python too.
Im not into spiders as such but those are remarkable, nice colors and boy are they big!
Welcome to the site, incase I forgot ! Cheers

Hi Charlotte!

This will probably sound like a strange question, but do the abdominal hairs on your Mexican Redrump change colour when the light source is directed from behind?

The reason I ask is this:

Many years ago I was out spotlighting in the Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve in Belize and my torch (flashlight) picked up some eyeshine in a burrow. It turned out to be a nice sized tarantula with a very red abdomen. I was fumbling in my pack for a camera, and put the torch on the ground so I had both hands free, and had it shining horizontally on the spider from behind. In that position, the hairs on the abdomen were snow-white - quite a distinct and spectacular change. I picked up the torch and again, when lit from above, the abdomen was bright red.

I never found out what species it was, but it looks very similar to your Mexican Redrump.

And that's a nice shot of your cristata. Do they get as big as parahybana?

:p

My little cristada is only about 4" right now but should reach around 7-9 inches.
The mexican red rump has a very common shape and size and many of the tarantulas look alike in mexico and south america. Their hairs are very reflective so I'm not surpised that it looks like it's different colors from different angles.

Hi Charlotte. Welcome to this site. Just noticed you logged on. It is 8.49 am here in Melbourne Australia which means it is Xmas Day so MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!

I ask all the girls I meet that question. If they say they don't know, it gives me an excuse to have a close look!
