So my big beautiful Diamond started growing this bump on his nose, just between his nostrals, so i took him to my local reptile vet (much to every ones amusement when i walk in with this huge black snake and they move their little yappy lap dogs away from me lol) and the vet stuck a needle in and said that it just looks like old scar tissue and not to worry about it and it will go down aventually.
That was around a month maybe 2 ago and the bump has not moved one bit at all (which i thought is better then it getting bigger) and i noticed last night he would stick his nose in the corner of the tank, kinda like his trying to escape, and push his nose as hard as he can against the glass, this freaked me out a lot cause i thought it might be actually bothering him.
Tonight i was weighing all my snakes and grabbed him out to give him a good check over and noticed that he has a couple of spots along his body that just arent neat and tidy like they are meant to be, i started to think he might have mites so i checked his water bowl (that he quite happly lives in, he never leaves the thing) and had a look to see if i could see any little black dots, there was little bits of old shed/scales but nothing else more.
Sorry this is such a long story but has anyone else had the same problem? Ive re-booked him another visit to the vet for a check up so we'll see what he say's anyway.
Also is there anyway i can tell if they are mites if his so black? From what ive read they usually start off around the eyes but he has none there at all, as i said just a couple of weird scales here and there.

I'd look at those funny scales again and make sure they're not lifted - if they are it's probably mites. Every time we'd get given a snake that someone no longer wanted (which was quite often) we'd just get ye ol' mite treatment and wipe it over the snake to see if the cotton would show anything. It couldn't be old skin that hasn't come off probably web he last shed? I've known some snakes to do that too...

Ill have a look in the morning to see if they are lifted or not, i didnt check for that. Now that i think about it he hasnt shed in a while, ill look back on his records and see when he last shed.
I hope to jeebus its not mites, cleaning out 20 reptiles and enclosures is going to be mega fun :/
His the snake ive owned for the longest so i dont understand why his the only one ive noticed with it, hmm anyway ill give them all a look over tomorrow

if he has mites you will soon see then crawling on you when you handle him! little red dots. or like miss_mosher said give him a wipe over with some gause they get stuck in that and its white so really easy to spot them. do you have a pic of his nose? it may come off with his next shed (hopfully ;)

Thats it, the scales arent turned up or anything they look like they have been scratched? He doesnt get fed live and he doesnt have anything sharp in his tank either

My diamond has the same behaviour, sticks his nose into the corner and starts pushing. No evidence of mites or anything, eats fine and sheds fine. He's healthy and active, so i'm not too worried about his behaviour - figure he's just being curious.
