Hi Guys/Girls,
I have a question for those experienced in breeding/incubating.
This year I have had reasonably good success breeding two pairs of cheynei, with two healthy looking clutches of 10 and 8 eggs from 3.5 year old animals.
First clutch was incubated at 30.5 degrees, using the over water method (very wet vermiculite but eggs suspended on create), tubs sealed but aired weekly and more frequently in final two weeks.
Eggs went 63 days till first hatchling pipped then remainder were manually pipped. Lost one egg 3 weeks in and the remaining 9 hatched. Hatchlings ranged from 15-23grams with the variation seemingly the amount of absorbed yolk rather than size of the hatchling.
Second clutch was incubated at 31.3-31.5 degrees as above but went 58 days and all allowed to pip on their own. All 8 hatched and ranged from 23-27 grams.
1 hatchling from each clutch hatched with a hard internal lump………………absorbed yolk that has formed solid in the stomach. Both hatchlings were early to pip and peak out of the egg but one of the last to leave the egg.
I have heard of this occurring in BHP hatchlings and am wondering if anybody experienced has a hypothesis on the likely cause, and any successful treatments.
