hi everyone
i am new to this forum posting, so bear with me please.
i have recently purchased a coastal carpet python, put him in
an enclosure, and im just curious how long i should wait for him
to settle before i should start to handle him. he is aproximately 5 foot.
i appreciate any help you guys may be able to give me on this and temperature
and lighting, as i have been told lots of different things.
thanks in advance.

i'd give him a few days to a week, make sure he has plenty of hides, and dont disturb him too much.
as for heating and lighting, my jungle has a heat light on during daylight hours, and the thermostat is set to 32 degrees. And heating gets turned off at night (jungles about 2.5 years old)
some people also have uv light to simulate daylight hours, but that's your decision.

Hi, how old is he? I have a coastal and they're great snakes, once they're settled in. I would recommend leaving him alone for at least a week, 3-4 days at the least. He'll feel alot more comfortable if he has a small tight fitting hide, and not much light. Does what you have him in have a thermal gradient? Mine does, i keep it 31-32degrees celcius in the hot end and 25-27 in the cool end. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, we will give him a week to settle.
we are unsure how old he is, as we couldnt get hold of the store today.
we do have him in a thermal gradient, as the heat lamps are only on the right
side of the tank.
today he was alot better in his enclosure, he was coming out and exploring.
he doesnt have the uv light running, only the heat lamps at the moment, so that should
be making him a bit more comfortable.
thanks again for all the advice :) any more would greatly be appreciated.
