Hi there. I just bought a 75w ReptaInfraPlus Red bulb. I have it hooked up to a thermostat and its making a real strange burning chemical type smell. Its similar to burning plastic. Is this normal? It fill the whole enclosure and I dont want to gas my snake.

I would run it outside your enclosure under supervision for a few hours to "burn off" any contaminants off the glass and see how it goes.

Ive never used a red bulb before, the previous one was just a normal bulb from bunnings, I thought I would give the red a go because my spotty doesn't like the white light. Is this burning off normal with red bulbs?

Sounds like it could also be an electrical fault
Check wiring to you fitting
Burning off should not be a part of any electrical equipment

Cheers for the reply.
Nah the wireing is fine, the smell is definitely coming from the bulb. Faulty bulb perhaps? Ive taken the snake out of the enclosure, and have plugged the bulb directly into the power so its running full bore and Ive opened the enclosure doors. Just watching it for an hour or so to see if it keeps making that smell or not. Thinking maybe there is a bit of glue or something left on from manufacturing? If it is something left on which shouldnt be there, hopefully the heat will burn it off in the next hour or so.

Ive got the fan facing the enclosure to make sure no residual smell lingers.

The smell is very similar to what a new appliance like a jug or george foreman grill smells like when you first use it.
