I have a 6 week old woma,my first snake.I keep it it in a 20 ltr plastic tub, heat mat up one end basking slate, hide other end water bowl in the middle.the heated end sits on 29.3 the other end today 26.i have had this snake for 2 weeks now.first week very active, ate strait away.i feed again last weekend, changed its hide to give it more privacy and havent seen it since.I have noticed a change in the eyes and think it might shed.Today is feeding day,not sure if i should disturb and try to feed.Do i need to change the heat mat to a higher wattage as that is max temp it gets to?Not sure as snake does not go and lay on the warm slate anyway.I think if i tried to feed it would eat as it is a pig.I have been feeding it 2 pinky rats.
Thank you.

Sounds like it's just being a snake up for a shed. Don't worry, you could offer a feed if you like but i wouldn't bother. Give it a week or so and it will be in a new skin and hungry as.

You should think about upping your temps though.

might be shedding its skin does it have cloudy eyes if it does it is probably waiting for its skin to be ready to shed my children's python does this when it is shedding and some times they dont feed when shedding so after it has shed it will start moving again.

Whats the best way to up the temp should i buy a higher wattage heat mat?I have noticed a change in the eyes.

try for about 34 in the hottest spot. a woma with a gut full loves a good warm spot. As said by others, it sounds like its shedding, it may still eat but best to wait, dont want to waste the rodent if he doesnt want it.

Sorry i misunderstood your post, i thought you said that the other day it was 29 but today only 26. My mistake.

That is the lower side of what is apprpriate and leaves no room to move should something go wrong, i would try bumping it up 3 or 4 degrees. You could buy a new or second heat source or if your ambient temps a relatively low you could try insulating your tub a bit better or moving the tub to a warmer part of your house.

Thanks for your help i will buy another heat source and up the temps.

are u messuring the floor temp or air temp? what wattage heat mat is it , is the click clack flat on the bottom or are there raised parts?

I wouldn't worry too much as it does sound like it will be shedding soon. I just got my new woma from snake ranch about a week ago. The cage setup they suggested was water down the cool end- they also used a substrate called carefresh, so they can burrow under with a small piece of flat card. You can get it from Petbarn. Snake ranch commented that the snakes seemed to feed better with this substrate. It's good your getting another heat source, as Jason said they like hotter temps. Could you post some pictures- would love to see your new woma.

DSCF0038.jpgDSCF0039.jpgDSCF0044.jpgThe warm end is floor temp the cool end is air temp 7 watt heat mat 250x150 mm plastic tub does have raised feet.Iwill move the water down to the cool end.Last photo is current set up with new hide.

Just lower the container so it's closer to the heat mat, will save you the money of buying a new heat source.

Your new woma looks great- setup looks good, especially with the hides at either end.

try heat chord , i find it much better with heating plastic tubs. you can coil it up tight and creates a better heat spot than a heat mat i think

Thank you everyone for your help,i have sorted out my temp problem got it at 34 on the floor warm side,32 air temp cool side. i had a look at him-her,eyes now very white no doubt its going to shed. How long untill you can touch them once they shed.
