Hi,

i recently got a murray darling on saturday. i have a 2ft glass tank. On one side i have a 12w heating mat connected into a thermalstat. The guy at the shop said this should be fine. The probe is in the middle of my tank about 1cm from touching the glass. My thermalstat thingo goes up to 40 degrees.

I have the heating mat underneath the glass tank, with about 2inches of substrate. So today i got a thermometer from work and tested temps.

1st temp at the probe was around 22 degree's The next temp was next to the snakes hide, and it was 27.7 degrees.

Isn't is supposed to be 30 degrees at the hide, where the heat mat is underneath?

Is my snake freezing?

and for the mat i would suggest going back to the store and exchanging that one for a stronger one or try making the mat so it touches the glass

Hi,

The mat is touching the glass. Theres my wooden stand, then the mat, then the glass. I jsut tested to see how hot the glass was at the bottom on the hot side, and it was 47 degrees.

Can't i just crank up the thermostat to like 35 degrees or something? Or what about taking away a center meter of substrate?

Also my hide at the moment, is a little cardboard box, so it's not exactly sitting on the substrate

just a update.
i put the temp thingo to the bottom of the glass, where the heating is, and it recorded 47 degrees. Should i remove some substrate, so it's closer to the bottom, or what about if i crank the thermostat up a few degrees, will that make it hotter, or is the mat already maxed out since the area around the probe isn't 30 degrees?

Also the temp near the cold end, is like 16-17
