ok this is strange but I thought I'd post some pic's of what I was left with from my attemp to let mum maternal incubate her eggs.she is quite a large snake I asked when she layed them could she flatten her eggs if she sat on top of them instead of coiling around them and well everyone told me no. I think she managed to do that though. I took mum off and they where riddled in fruit flie lave and eggs. I seperated them and they came appart quite easy considering they have been 24 days old. the brown colour you are seeing is from being pee'd on by the mother and as you can see is they are flat. how ever I candled them and found most of them to be pinkish inside I can only see viens in a few because of the stain. is it too late or am I able to some how inflate these eggs so the embrio has room to grow or will it still grow anyways and hatch out of these eggs that are as flat as buttons.

there is one pic with the lava as requested. all eggs where seperated so I could clean every egg and get rid of all eggs and lava and fly from them and the container. the shells appear and feel like leather but some are very hard where they have been peed on.

tempreture and humidity in my incubator is staying steady. temp - average 30 - 31 deg and humidity is 93% substrate is a vermiculite and purlite with water so 50/20/30 if you catch what I'm saying.

look i'm no expert and i'm sure a lot of people are on this site but the eggs don't look great, my question would be do they smell? ;)

You mixed the vermiculite and water by weight right?

Thats gotta be the saddest clump of eggs ive ever seen. If they hatch they are sure to be some form of super snake, impervious to any disease.

Just leave it alone. The more you fiddle with the eggs, the worse the situation seems to get.

well the mix is not wet its clumps but doesn't drip. and yeah I know it does seem that way doesn't it. by the way this is the second time I've actually touched this lot anyways.

there is a lil pong some of the eggs are yellow and are hard when others are softish and pinkish with veins. I'll be leaving them be from now and onwards and if they don't hatch let that be a lesson to me for disturbing them, seperating them, not having a proper incubator, tossing good one in the bin (by accident) and simply letting mum which is a big girl incubate such tiny eggs and what ever I've done to prevent them to hatch.....
but if they do hatch then yeah I'm keeping them lol they've got to be strong lil buggers. is there any way of inflating them or just leave them and see what happens. if they where white or creamish and looked like this would you say the same thing? or are for sure gonners?

is this your mix 50% vermiculite, 20% purlite, 30% water ?

im thinking that mix is too dry that would be why she urinated on them to raise the moisture level
someone else correct me if i am wrong but shouldn't the mix be 50/50, substrate/water mix meaning for every 100 grams of substrate you add 100grams of water

Wow  their rotten & I'll go out on a limb here & say...

I don't think their going to make it lol

Sorry your having such a bad run mate, better luck next time ;)

lol jasonL

ok I might of gotten % WRONG sigh thats whats in the container in the incubator, she was on coconut husk lining and had damp spghnum moss around her, temp was 31 - 32 but I couldn't get humidity up past 40% in the lay box.

I didn't weigh it I just boiled the vermiculite then added some purlite. sorry I didn't want to cause any problem I have no idea with weight. I mixed in a bucket plus my scales weren't working.

ahhhhh sigh I feel so stupid now thanx

just_joshin thats so funny...

well I'll continue with these dead eggs and incubate another 30 - 40 days and see if they hatch lol not too sure that they will but one can hope sigh... and yes I think I will not breed next year though I'll weight till 2011 when I am in sydney as stated before hand. I wish I just incuated all of them now. thanx for having abit of humor.

its very hard to judge the mix without weighing it out, especially if you've never done it before. Spend $20 and get yourself a set of digital scales for next year.

Oh, I wouldnt be so quick to blame the darwin temps either. Try again next season, but without the swamp mix.

It sounds like no one here has had experience with eggs that look quite like that, and neither have I. But if the colour is just from the mother urinating on them, they probably just look a bit dehydrated, which is normal for maternal incubation. I wouldnt give up on them but i would try and remove the flys and their larva.

Bit late to worrie after what this clutch has be through !

got rid of flies and lava few days ago hints the reason I seperated them. that pic of lava was taken just after seperating them.

does anyone have pic's of a clutch of eggs thats been maternally incubated and pee'd on?

Hi Candycaine.

I can find you some pic's of clutch's that have been maternally incubated, i'm certain the females never pee'd on them and i was only maintaining humidity levels between 0% and 35% humidity, mostly around 20% to 30% though.

When you leave a female to incubate herself, you don't want too high a humidity level otherwise the female will end up with a Respiratory Infection,Skin Infection or worse.

The egg mass does not need it and i have had good success from those levels above.

I only put in sphagnum moss and once it dries out, only ever spray slightly a few times and never use Vermiculite with M.I.

I'm sure you have had problems due to: far too wet a mix with your medium.

If you use artificial incubation, the easiest method by far is "no substrate method"

Vermiculite is alot less forgiving than Perlite if mix is too wet.

Practice makes perfect though.

Better preperation for next time around and you'll succeed i'm sure.

Hope this Helps some

I'm moving house soon and most stuff is packed, but i'll search for those pic's for you anyway.

l almost hate to mention it with all you and the eggs have been through but l dont see any marks to show which way was up before they were moved . Any turning from upright will drown the embryo . Aside from that dont give up untill the time has gone way over , l had some go more than 60 days last year then 100% hatch , good luck , you need it .
