Can someone explain to me what a jaguar carpet is. I know they are Morelia s Mcdowell but dont look like anything ive seen before. I found them on a site called Precision Reptiles, Probably in the USA. Are they hybrids or what??

its a Pattern Colour mutation of Carpet python, if it has hybrid origins, is a whole other thread...hahaahh

does it happen by breeding bro and sis continually? or does a hatchy arrive with freaky colours and then keep breeding that ??

You could compare it to breeding albinos, you cant just breed normal related animals together again and again, to get albinos, you get my drift.

They are not illegal in Australia, just illegal to import! At this stage, they are only available overseas, hence the illegality. If someone happened to breed the Jag mutation here on Oz, there would be no reason for it to be illegal! :)

I thought they were a crossbreed, not just a mutation ?
Something like Jungle x Coastal x Irian Jaya

You would think they would be here by now? Why do you think no-one has illegally imported a hatchy, claiming to have bred it here, and bred from it?? Catch my drift???

The rumour is that they are here, but whoever has them is obviously trying to keep it quiet for fear of theft by any or all of: DEC / NPWS / the normal garden-variety thieves

if they were legally bred here they would only be look a likes and couldn't really be called Jags anyway as they wouldn't have originated from the jag line.
