Hi everyone .... have a gorgeous 10 month old Jungle who i have moved into a terrarium. He is very snappy and still settling in which is fine but i would like to know what are the best methods & products for keeping a terrarium clean from viruses, bacteria and any other nasties that may appear.

The cage floor is lined with sand which catches all the faecal matter that he excretes but how often should i be changing the sand in the cage? i have been cleaning out sand where i can see obvious signs of excremeties.

If anyone can give me any ideas, recommendations, suggestions etc on the cage and how to manage/care for it that would be awesome :)

Cheers

Michael

F10 for cleaning and disinfecting the cage - available at herp shop, As for suggestions on your setup, personally i'd ditch the sand and replace it with a more suitable loose substrate, if thats your preference, something like kritters crumble, aspen or breeder's choice. Apprently sand for non desert species can cause issues

Haha..excremeties. I'm stealing that.

As leamos said, f10 is the best stuff for reptile cages, just give the inside of the enclosure a wipe every few weeks. The sand may be a pain in the rear when it comes to maintenance, but of you're willing to spot clean for the sake of the appearance of the red sand, it wont cause any more problems than that.

Just spot clean it whenever he "excretes" and just every 3 weeks or so, give the cage a wash. And as others have said maybe sand isnt the best, try some bark for bedding as it goes well with the Jungle species.

Thanks for the advice :) I heard about the F10 product so i have already placed an order ..... Good advice re the sand! It does make the whole terraroum heavier and if its not best for the snake then I will replace it.

Many thanks :)
