hi i just got a what im told was a 6month old jungle on sunday and she is my first ever snake and just had a feed last night but she doesnt seem to be active at all and stays in this one spot (seen her go get a drink once but then straight back to the spot. oh and can someone comment on her patterns or colouration i don't know what is desireable in jungles i think its nice that just about all her scales are either black or yellow and no mixed colours on one scale

Is she getting close to a feed? she could be just settling in, or basking. How are your temps? it could be cold for her.

She is a very nice jungle, doesn't look "undesirable" lol

very nice jungle dont worry about not being active they need to digest there food first before being active takes about 48 or so dont exspect him/her to move much and depending on the age will sleep most of the time cany comment on the pattern as i dont have any jungles yet but yours looks very nice

very common for them not to move in the day and be active at nighht, and if he/she just fed, then i wouldnt expect it to move for at least 48 hours depending on food size. i gave mine a really big feed once and he didnt move for around 4-5 days.
patterns are individual taste, generally people like high yellows and very distictive patterns, but everyone is different. i like more yellow and i know people who like more black. if you are happy thats the main thing

whoops didn't read that she fad. yeah the previous comments a right on... my jungles haven't moved since their last feed ether. It take up a lot of energy to digest their food so they will normally sit in the hot spot for a while.

ok thank you very much i hope it is just because she ate my temperatures are maximum of about 30 min of about 23

should i get a ceramic bulb for night time? atm i just got a normal heatbulb that i switch off at night

probably helps for natural environment that i live in east palmerstone lol

Min of 23?!?!?! is this a day in day out thing?? or just the odd day here and there

I read this as part of the thermal gradient of the enclosure (cool end temp obviously). If not, then there is a problem!

Dotti: is there a heat gradient in your enclosure (ie. warm end and cool end)?

Yeh true, but 23 still seemed a little cool for me

Don't keep Jungles myself, so not sure of the exact temps. What are the best temps for them so the original poster knows? Was under the impression (may be way off though) that around 25 is common in the cool end and up around 32 or so in the warm end?

doesnt make a lick of difference.. cool end can be whatever, so long as your temps go from somewhere around 32 (one of mine goes up to 35 at the hottest part and the coolest goes up to 31) to somehwere below 25 you're fine (for jungles). snakes are pretty good at thermoregulating and were doing it long before humans decided they were going to try and control it. give them hot areas and cold areas and they will sort themselves out. only with small clik clacks do you need to be more precise, where the hot end should get above 31 so the cool end stays aound 25ish. my snakes cool ends cant be much above 20 in any of my enclosures. my warmest cool end at the moment is sitting at 22*c and my coolest cool end is 19.8*c (its a fairly cool night tonight) and all my snakes have 24/7 heat this winter.

Thanks for clarifying.

I follow the same line of thinking with my animals - not really concerned about the cool end unless it's not cool enough.

yea sorry 23 was the cool end and 30 is warm end but i figure seriously they cant have perfect conditions in the wild to exact degree's what if its been raining for a week and the sun hasnt come out and its winter im sure they can handle anything they're survival machines =P. and actually im pretty sure my neighbor doesnt have heat sources for his snakes and hes been breeding and keeping lots of snakes for like 15 years (for all those who missed my post i live in tropical north queensland)
