Hi all,

So I've been looking around for a suitable night light (with a bit of heat) for my jungle python's enclosure. I've currently got a 40w purple reptile night light, but it doesn't do much at all.

I've found party globes (bayonet, so a pain to find the correct fitting), as well as Phillips PAR38 flood lights in both red and blue.

My question is, would the PAR38 flood light style globe be appropriate? It's 80w, but at least is ES, so would go straight into my ceramic fitting fine. I'd imagine they put out quite a bit of heat, so are these bulbs just a standard filament and are they dimmable?

Cheers,

Mark

I have used par 38 floods for many years i do however use a thermostat as they do produce alot of heat. A cage is required to protect against burns. Or like you are planning maybe use a dimmer. They are available at bunnings for about $9 each. I use the as a primary heat source/basking spot. In some of my taller enclosures i have them running without a thermostat but use timmers. Bunnings also sell all the fittings etc for the 40w party globes. I use these in my tub system and they work a treat and only cost a couple of bucks.

Great, thanks for the reply. I'll pick one up and test it outside the enclosure first on a dimmer and thermometer to see what kind of temperatures I can get.

Thanks again.
